Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-r0000 (76T03AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Good evening, I have a problem with the graphics card of my laptop. In practice, some software that I have installed (Unreal engine 5, Monster Hunter Rise, Yakuza Like a dragon, Yakuza 0) crashes, unless I deactivate the Intel graphics card, letting only the Nvidia one to work. However, when I disable the Intel graphics card, my computer's performance drops dramatically (from >100 FPS to 10 FPS), which normally shouldn't happen. Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?

Hi @EaNasir,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you are facing issues with the graphics card configuration on your Victus by HP 16.1-inch Gaming Laptop. The problem you're describing could be related to how your system is managing both the integrated Intel graphics and the dedicated NVIDIA GPU. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Ensure that both your Intel integrated graphics and NVIDIA GPU drivers are up-to-date. Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues that lead to crashes or performance problems.
  • You can visit the NVIDIA driver download page for the latest drivers for your GPU.
  • For Intel graphics, you can check for updates via the Intel Driver & Support Assistant.

Set Preferred GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel

  • Open the NVIDIA Control Panel (you can right-click on the desktop and select "NVIDIA Control Panel").
  • Go to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings.
  • Select the programs (e.g., Unreal Engine 5, Monster Hunter Rise, Yakuza) that are having issues.
  • For each program, make sure the preferred graphics processor is set to High-performance NVIDIA processor.
  • This will force the games and applications to use the NVIDIA GPU instead of the Intel one.

Power Management Settings

  • Make sure your laptop is plugged into power, as switching off the integrated graphics might lead to performance throttling when the system is trying to save power.
  • You can adjust your power settings:
    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options, and set it to High Performance mode.
    • In the NVIDIA Control Panel, under Manage 3D Settings, set Power Management Mode to Prefer maximum performance.

Check for Conflicts in Device Manager

  • Open Device Manager (right-click Start > Device Manager).
  • Expand the Display adapters section and ensure that both the Intel and NVIDIA GPUs are listed without any warning icons (yellow exclamation marks).
  • Right-click each adapter and select Update driver to ensure both drivers are properly installed.

BIOS/UEFI Settings

  • Sometimes, there might be settings in the BIOS/UEFI related to graphics or power management that can affect GPU behavior. You can check for an option to force the use of the NVIDIA GPU or adjust integrated graphics settings.
  • To access the BIOS, restart the laptop and press Esc or F10 (depending on your model) during boot.

Reinstall NVIDIA and Intel Graphics Drivers

  • If the above steps don't work, you can try completely uninstalling both the Intel and NVIDIA drivers and reinstalling them.
  • Use a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to cleanly remove the drivers before reinstalling the latest versions from the official websites.

Check for Overheating or Thermal Throttling

  • It's possible that thermal throttling is causing the performance drop when you disable the Intel graphics. Check your temperatures with software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to see if the laptop is getting too hot.
  • If temperatures are too high, clean the laptop’s vents, ensure it’s on a flat surface, and consider using a cooling pad.

By ensuring that both your drivers are up-to-date and adjusting the GPU settings, you should be able to get the best performance from your system without encountering the crashes or drops in FPS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
