My Reverb G2 has started overheating after 20-25 minutes of use. The lenses switch off one at a time. I've replaced the cable. I've also tried directing a fan at the headset which does keep the outside cool but the inside is still getting very hot. This is happening with ambient room temperatures between 21C and 24C. I'm pretty sure it's a defect but I'd be happy to find a solution. It is out of warranty by about 6 months but I find it difficult to believe that the headset should only last for a year and a half. Is there a solution I'm not aware of? Is there a cost effective repair available through HP? As this appears to be a widespread problem, I'm hopeful that the problem and solution is well understood. I have already had to send it back for one repair (under warranty) as a result of the headset regularly failing to connect. I don't know if this is related or not but I wonder if the issue that was repaired was caused by a more widespread defect that was not identified at the time of repair. HP support, please let me know what my available options are?

As an update for anyone who may have also experienced this issue: HP support directed me to a third party repair centre which is the large chain Best Buy. Best Buy has informed me that they do not repair VR headsets despite HP directing me to them.At this point I have a headset I can’t use and no way to have it repaired. I purchased the headset in Nov 2021 and now have to completely replace the product. I appreciate that this is no longer under warranty but despite that I expect that a product at this price point would last much longer than this. Less than two years for something this expensive is very frustrating. Hopefully the many people that are having the same issue will have better luck than I have finding a solution. And hopefully anyone considering this product will find this post and be aware that they may not even get two years of use out of this headset.

Sadly, this is all too common as LittleNose mentioned. Although some have said cables were a fix, in my experience, it is the headset that goes faulty.
Mine faltered after about 10-15 mins initially but then it got to be just a few seconds.
Once outside of warranty, there is very little you can do.

Exact same issue. Okay for 20 minutes then lenses switching off one at a time. Obviously a design fault. Mine is 4 months out of warranty. Very poor of HP who must realise that this is an issue. Would advise anyone who is considering buying a G2 to think again.

The mod I've done on my headset has stopped all the balck screens happening for me.
It's worth a try if you've got access to a 3D printer.

My reverb does exactly the same, I am lucky if I get a few minutes out of it before if shuts down. Mine made it just out of the warranty period with no issues and then out of the blue it occurred. I am very disappointed with it as it was used very little (couple of nights a week for racing) and at a £650 price tag it was definitely not worth the purchase.
I have heard online that it is the bluetooth module that overheats causing it to shut down but I have also come across conflicting stories regarding the reason. If I ever discover what the cause of it is for mine I will post it on here.
