Reverb G2
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer's Windows is unable to recognise the Reverb G2:

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎25/‎12/‎2020
OS build 19042.685
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.551.0

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz, 3601 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)

Motherboard Asus P9X79

Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER

Driver Version: 27.21.14.6089

I have done a fresh install of Windows 10 and it is still a no go.

In device manager it shows up as HoloLens Sensor with an error:

'The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.'

Trying to update drivers always fails with no drivers found.

I have tried through every single USB port on my MB, it doesn't even come up on any of the USB 3.0 ports.

My laptop is able to recognise the headset, I have no idea why it can but my main computer can't see it.

Turns out the motherboard I have uses an Asmedia USB 3.0 controller, so the only way to get pass that is to get a PCIe USB 3.1 card.

Did you install Microsoft Mixed Reality yet? I think that has the drivers for it. Google Mixed Reality Install and get it from the Microsoft store app if you do not have it.

HP Recommended

Yes, I do have it installed, it goes through the checklist then sits on updating drivers forever.

Im sorry I do not have a solution for you.

Can you try to disable your antivirus / firewall and see if it is affecting it?

HP Recommended

Even with no firewall/AV, the mixed reality portal isn't getting past the installing drivers page, and device manager still instantly cannot find drivers for the hololens sensors device.

I have also tried reinstalling my motherboard's USB drivers, no change.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I can get audio through the headset.

The VR headset requires USB 3.0, I have a USB 3.2Gen2 card and it did not help in my case. I think NEC/Renesas, Fresco Logic and Intel do not have issues usually. ASMedia has had compatibility issues with WMR in the past.

I have an ahem older Intel i7. 6th Gen and an additional USB 3 expansion card which is ASMedia.

My Motherboard USB 3 is an Intel and it has the same issues. Like wise my RTX2080 USB C connection also does not work with the headset. I have a Reverb G1 and G2 both do not want to work.

I will try to get a new USB card and see if that helps.
