HP Reverb G2 Virtual Reality Headset
Microsoft Windows 11

Sometimes during a flight the reverb g2 screen goes grey/white for a few seconds and then returns to normal. If I lift the headset at this time the monitor is displaying the proper display.
At the same time the headset seems to lose tracking and my position in the plane shifts around .

This only happens some times but seems to be getting more frequent. it did it several times today and for longer than usual.
Is anyone else having a similar issue?
Hp replaced the cable but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.
It was happening with my system in Windows 10.
I have basically rebuilt the pc and installed windows 11.
It is still doing the same thing.
I have changed usb ports but that hasn't changed anything.
The display is excellent apart from this issue.
My worry is that the issue seems to be getting more frequent and may be heading towards a total failure.

Anyone got any ideas?
The game is absolutely stock with no extras apart from the Open XR toolkit.
It was doing the same thing before I installed the Open xr toolkit.

Hi Marcusj,

The setting in wmr to turn of positional tracking has solved my problem.

I tried it last night and the fade to grey problem is gone.

Perhaps something in my room has changed and the tracking is not as good as it used to be.

At least with the setting turned off it doesn't fade to grey anymore.

I think if you are using games where you are standing and moving around it is probably best left on so that you know if tracking is lost so that you won't crash into something.

I am mainly using MSFS so I am seated and I really don't need it.

Good luck

Owen

I have the same problem with a brand new Reverb G2. It doesn't seem to matter which application or game I'm using, I get fade outs occurring more frequently the longer the unit is on. The fade outs last from just a second up to 30 or so seconds and generally that behavior starts after several minutes of operation. I think it might be a heat-related issue. I'm going to try to get a replacement of the unit.

P.S. also Windows 11

Hi Markusj

That's very interesting.

My headset certainly gets hot.

I rarely play for longer than 30 minutes or so and yet there is quite  a hotspot on the front of the unit.

Have you checked out the lighting in the room to see if it is tracking related ?

Good luck on getting yours sorted.

Owen, you may  be on to something with the ambient lighting level. I usually use the headset at night in a darkened room, but I tried it today with daylight in the window for about 20-25 minutes with no incidents at all. I'll continue to research...

Thanks... Mark

Hi Markusj,

There is a setting in Mixed Reality Portal / settings / mixed reality / Headset display  called positional tracking .

It says Fade to gray when positional tracking is lost.    On or off.

I haven't tried it yet but I think it might be my problem as well.

I will try it turned off and see if there is an improvement.

I don't see why my setup would have changed because it seems to be getting worse.

maybe my tracking is failing somehow.

Yep, Owen, it worked. I turned off all the room lights last night (after finding and turning off that setting) and the display was consistently on for as long as I used it!

It's frustrating, having not found the simple solution and thinking my new headset was broken. This is all so new to me and I'm in the uncomfortable beginning of the VR learning curve. There's quite a bit to figure out here, but I'm certainly glad I finally took the plunge! It's awesome.

Thanks for your input!
