 Hi Gnjb.

I would like to ask you to do one more test for me, if you can of course, but first let me tell you what I found so far.

So after few hours of messing around with the keyboard, this is what I found:

I found out that the animated backlight remains functional after a reboot because it is stored in the hardware profiles of the keyboard("fn"+"1-8"), so any customisation to animated efects is storred in the corresponding profiles. And I believe that after a reboot the keyboard would recall the coresponding HW profile and use it, this is why it works.

As for static profile, it encounteres some kind of issue while recalling the last saved profile and puts the backlight to OFF state, as the keyboard does not have any HW profile for static backlight.

BUT...what is interesting, is the fact that macro keys are saved and working in both cases, even though the backlight will be off for static color the macros wil work, meaning that the keyboard has only a problem of recalling the collors and puts it to default OFF.

I also did this test between two system, set cutom colors in win 10 and test if it remains the same on win 7.

-So the custom animated backlight and macros will remain saved in the keyboard and can be used on the win7 with no problem(both the custom animation and macros work on win7).

-For static colors unfotunately, the keyboard will turn off the backlight but the macro keys will remain functional.

You said that on your son's PC the keybord worked in both cases. I belive that on that PC the USB power may not be completly OFF in shutdown state(an option in BIOS), thus mentaining internal memory of the keyboard powered on.

Could you please try a static color profile + some mocros(p1-p5 to any keys you like, ex:number 1 to 5) on your son's computer, confirm that it will work during boot and bios of that computer, then unplug and move the keyboard to your computer and see if it retains the profile during boot and bios or even windows without OCC running at all?

My suspicion is that the static profile issue is related to: the power loss when our computer turns OFF or just by unplugging the keyboard.

This would help me alot with the direction I have to take for futher tests and questions to HP.

As a side note:

-the motherboard I have is asus maximus VI hero, maybe the same as yours?

-Also tried both usb3.0 and 2.0 with no change.

Just trying to gather all the pieces of the puzzle :).

Thank you.

Hi Radu,

I am running an old Asus H81M-Plus motherboard.

I checked all BIOS settings related to USB and could not find a setting that helped here.

I don't have an extra PC here anymore, so no chance to test on a second system at the moment. My sons PC is at his house now.

I could imagen that the macros are stored independent of the colouring schemas, and thats the reason they work too - but who knows. I wish there would be a way to reset the keyboard, to get rid of old configurations.

reg,

By reset what do you mean? What configuration do you want to reset? Reset to the default static red color, with no macros?

Maybe I have an ideea to help you or maybe a workaround.

Hi Radu,

I assume that the config for colouring, macros etc. is stored _on_ the keyboard.

By reset I mean resetting the keyboard to factory default with no previous configs stored.

Not sure this is possible.

Hi Gnjb,

Well...it is possible to set the keyboard as if it was default, to not be confused with "reset".

-For the macros(default blank): you just delete all the macros in OCC and then click apply. In my case the keyboard saves this and all macro keys are blank. at all times. The OMEN(home) button cannot be changed as it is hardware set.

Did you have in mind something else by reseting the macros?

-For the color scheme...well you know the storry.

BUT.

Using the "fn"+"1-8" you can cycle through the animations directly on the keyboard. The animations are usually set to Omen Galaxy theme in OCC, if you want the exact defaul settings for each animations, you can ask me. But as you know, the animations work fine on this keyboard.

As for the static red collor that the keyboard comes by default in the box i found a workaround:

If you choose animations->color cycle->custom->just select one color(red)->transition speed(slow), then you will have on proffile 'fn'+'1' constant red color on all keys at all times, the downside of this is that is has a small dimming efect when the keyboard would change the color, but is bearly noticeable(similar to breathing effect).

Hope this helps, and let me know if you need the default settings for animations.

In my case, for now I use the keyboard on win7 system with the animations  selected from the keyboard, the customatization of each animation was done prior on the win10 system. The keyboard seems to work fine in all conditions.

The only fact that remains is that we cannot  create a static profile to customize each individual key as we would like.
