Hello, If anyone could help me it would be the ones that own a 280 Silent Wireless Mouse. My friend has taken my mouse and never given it back. I was just wondering if there was a serial number in the battery compartment. I have the original box and I am worried that he will take the serial number sticker off from the underside of the mouse. If someone could just tell me if there is a serial number in the battery compartment that would be really beneficial. I thank everyone for their time and efforts reading this.

@Valoray,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Hi there! I understand your concern about recovering your HP 280 Silent Wireless Mouse. Regarding your question: No, the serial number (S/N) for an HP 280 Silent Wireless Mouse is not located inside the battery compartment -it's typically found only on a small sticker on the underside of the mouse.

If you're worried your friend might remove or tamper with that sticker, here are a couple of things you could consider:

  1. Keep the original packaging -If it has the serial number printed on it (often near the barcode), that can serve as proof of ownership.

  2. Check your HP account -If you registered the device on HP's website, the serial number may be saved under your devices.

  3. Receipts or photos -If you have any receipts or photos of the mouse (especially with the serial label visible), those could be helpful.

Hopefully this helps -and I sure hope you're able to get your mouse back soon.

Kind Regards,

Yes, the HP 280 Silent Wireless Mouse usually has a serial number inside the battery compartment as well.
You can check there to confirm ownership even if the bottom sticker is removed.
