HP 930 Creator Wireless Mouse

Hi all. I just set up brand new HP 930 Creator mouse and I'm very surprised by how the mouse pointer movement is jittery and stuttering. Not to mention the scroll wheel quite randomly refusing to scroll anything (mostly downwards), but it's a different story. It's the pointer movement stutter that's the most frustrating. It's so unintuitive, that it just makes me tired after few hours of trying to click everything precisely. I've tested it in a few games too. While moving the camera with the mouse around the stutter is so noticable, that it feels like the framereate is dropping to around 20 fps, while in fact it doesn't - using my old mouse makes it perfectly fine and smooth.

I've tried both my desktop (Windows 11) and laptop (Windows 10) PCs, either with included wireless dongle or just bluetoth connection. Connected the dongle to various USB sockets. Tried with or without HP software installed. I've charged the battery to 100%, and changed the surface I'm working on to multiple things, etc. Nothing helped. Mouse is currently set to 1200 DPS, so nothing fancy. Should work like a charm.

Up until recently I was using Logitech Hero 502 mouse, and I stil do, but it's a bit to big for my palms (hence the move to 930 Creator) and I just can't tell how much smoother the feeling of my previous mouse is. It's soo much more precise and smooth, that I just suspect there's something wrong with my brand new HP 930's settings or set up. I'd be grateful for any tips, as it's really nice and convenient device, seems just perfect for me, but well.. it just doesn't perform the way I hoped it would.

Hi @Krenegee,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing mouse stuttering with your HP 930 Creator Wireless Mouse. Mouse stuttering can be frustrating, but there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check the battery: Make sure the mouse has sufficient battery power. Low battery levels can sometimes cause performance issues. If the battery is low, replace it with a fresh one or charge it if it's rechargeable.
  • Interference: Wireless mice can be affected by interference from other devices, such as wireless routers, cordless phones, or other wireless peripherals. Try moving these devices away from the mouse and see if it improves the performance.
  • USB receiver placement: If your mouse uses a USB receiver, ensure that it is inserted into a USB port that is located close to the mouse. Using a USB port on the front or side of your computer may provide a more reliable connection.
  • Reset the connection: Try resetting the wireless connection between the mouse and the USB receiver. Look for a small button on the mouse or the receiver, and press and hold it for a few seconds to initiate the pairing process again.
  • Driver and firmware updates: Check for any available driver or firmware updates for your mouse on the HP support website. Updating to the latest version can sometimes fix known issues and improve performance.
  • Surface and mousepad: The surface you're using the mouse on can also impact its performance. Try using a mousepad or a different surface to see if it makes a difference. Reflective or uneven surfaces can cause tracking issues.
  • Try on a different computer: If possible, test the mouse on a different computer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to your computer or if it's a mouse-related issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello!

Thank you for your response and your willingness to help. Still, copy-paste solutions aren't helpful at all. Especially when you suggest a number of things that I did already try, and I wrote about them in my post. Seems like you didn't read that at all or at least didn't do that too carefully.

Anyway, to sum up your sugestions:

  • Check the batteryI fully charged it beforehand (and I wrote about it)
  • Interference Tried the mouse with my laptop with nothing else connected, except of my router that was in a different room, so that shouldn't be the case
  • USB receiver placement - Tried with USB reciever about 10cm from the mouse, no difference.
  • Reset the connection - The mentioned mouse hasn't got such switch. I assume you should know such details about your own hardware. 😉 Anyway, I mentioned the same mouse behavior while using Bluetooth connection without  using included USB reciever, so the bad communication with USB reciever clearly is not the cause.
  • Driver and firmware updates: - Up to date.
  • Surface and mousepad  - Another thing I already did and mentioned in my post was using the mouse on different surfaces.
  • Try on a different computer  - I did. And again, I mentioned that already.

To add a bit to the subject - I thought that maybe the low polling rate of the mouse is the cause of all the evil things. True, it works with only 125 Hz, nothing spectacular, but for the sake of comparison I lowered the polling rate on my previous mouse from 1000 Hz to 125 Hz and the difference, when compared to HP 930, was still like a night and day. It wasn't super-smooth, but it was consistent and predictable, while HP 930's cursor movement is quite erratic. With one carefully smooth move across the screen the amount of pointer "skipping" and stuttering consistently varies up and down. Moving windows on the desktop tends to look like a stop-motion video every second or two, while being very smooth, predictable and consistent while using my old mouse.
