Hi @Igo5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP M260 Wired Mouse is not being detected by the software on a different laptop, despite working on another one, it could be due to a number of reasons. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Basic Troubleshooting

Check USB Port:

  • Try plugging the mouse into a different USB port on the laptop.
  • Ensure the USB port is working by testing it with another device, like a flash drive.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the mouse cable and USB connector for any visible damage.

Ensure Proper Connection:

  • Make sure the USB connector is firmly plugged into the port.

Software and Driver Issues

Update or Reinstall Drivers:

  • Device Manager:
    • Open Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select it).
    • Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
    • Right-click your mouse and select Update driver.
    • If that doesn't work, try Uninstall device and then unplug and replug the mouse to reinstall the driver automatically.
  • Download Latest Drivers:
    • Go to the HP support website and download the latest drivers specific to the HP M260 Wired Mouse.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Ensure no other mouse or input device software is interfering with the HP M260 software.
  • Temporarily disable any other mouse management software to see if it resolves the issue.

Compatibility Mode:

  • Sometimes running the software in compatibility mode can help.
  • Right-click on the software executable, go to Properties, then Compatibility, and try running it in compatibility mode for a previous version of Windows.

System Issues

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your operating system is fully updated. Sometimes, Windows updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for updates.

Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:

  • Some laptops have BIOS/UEFI settings that control USB port functionality.
  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, Del, or Esc during startup).
  • Check if there are any settings related to USB ports and ensure they are enabled.

Try on Another Device:

  • Test the mouse on another device to confirm it still works. This helps rule out a hardware issue with the mouse itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
