Hi @Seadbeady,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
To set up your HP 280 Silent Wireless Mouse, follow these steps to ensure it works correctly:
1. Check Battery Installation
- Make sure the battery is properly inserted in the mouse. If it comes with a pre-installed battery, try replacing it to ensure the battery isn't dead.
2. USB Receiver
- Locate the USB receiver: The mouse should come with a small USB dongle (usually stored inside the mouse).
- Plug the receiver into an available USB port on your computer.
- The mouse should automatically connect once the USB receiver is plugged in.
3. Turn On the Mouse
- There should be an On/Off switch at the bottom of the mouse. Ensure it is switched to the On position.
4. Install Drivers (if needed)
- While most wireless mice, including the HP 280 Silent Mouse, should work plug-and-play (i.e., without manual driver installation), sometimes it's necessary to install specific drivers.
- Check Windows Update: Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates. Sometimes, Windows will detect new hardware and download drivers automatically.
- Visit the HP Support website and search for your mouse model in the drivers section. Install any recommended software or drivers.
5. Test the Mouse
- Move the mouse to see if the cursor responds on your screen. If it’s not responding, try a different USB port on your computer.
6. Check Device Settings
- Open Device Manager:
- Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager.
- Expand the Mice and other pointing devices section.
- If the HP 280 Silent Mouse is listed, right-click it and ensure it is enabled. You can also try updating the driver from this menu.
7. Troubleshoot Wireless Connectivity
- Ensure there are no wireless interference sources near the mouse or the USB receiver.
- Try using the mouse on a different surface or with the receiver closer to the mouse to rule out range issues.
8. Restart the Computer
- Sometimes, simply restarting the computer after plugging in a new device like a mouse can resolve the issue.
If the mouse still doesn't work after following these steps, the issue could be with the mouse or USB receiver.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
