Avoid ASMedia controller cards. I bought this and it does not work. https://www.amazon.ca/Vantec-2-Port-Type-PCIe-UGT-PC371AC/dp/B013FDFGTI/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-nc-drs...

It's not a specific problem with ASMedia. Some of them work and some don't. I'm using this one and it's working and it has a ASMedia - ASM2142 chipset: https://www.startech.com/en-us/cards-adapters/pexusb312eic

I had the same issues and tried most everything.  Yesterday I moved the connection from the usb 3.1 which is the one I have for the standard connection to using the adapter and moving to a usb 3.0 connection.  Everything worked perfectly after that. No sound cut out no steam crashes and no longer get the error on startup where had to unplug to get headset to work.  Since doing this I played for 6 hours with no issues at all.

I found yesterday if I use a 3.0 USB port using adapter vs the 3.1 I was using all the issues went away with crashes, startup issues and sound switching.  Hopefully you are also using a 3.1 connection when you have issues and change to a 3.0 connection all goes away.  Finally getting to enjoy the headset.

Updating my previous post in this board -  the problem resolved itself when I started using a different USB port on the motherboard.  I had tried multiple ports, including the one it is now working in but now it works.  Or at least it did.  Over the last few days the sound has started to cut from stereo to mono sometimes in iRacing, especially when the CPU was under stress.  I will try using a USB hub when I can get one but does anyone know if there is an updated firmware or other update that I should be looking out for and where I would look for it.

It seems to be AMD specific, or AM4 motherboard specific so maybe it is a BIOS flash or something similar?

Yea, this is basically this:

You either get 7-14 or audio cutting in/out. Seems HP are investigating maybe, but communication is sparse at the moment.

I've solved for now by using the USB hub on my monitor.

Exact same problem here. x570 Gigabyte Aorus Master, 5900x,  tried all the fixes, managed one lap of Bathurst in Assetto Corsa Competizione and then the problem started again! Very frustrating!

I had another post on this and my problem was using a usb3.1 port, which not only caused the sound cutting in and out but many crashes and often had issues bringing up desktop when already in vr.  Switched to a standard usb3.0 port and all my issues went away.

I can confirm that after plugging my G2 into the USB 3.0 port on my monitor all my problems have gone?! No sound problems or game crashes? Go figure..........

This only started happening to me after I updated chipset drivers and BIOS and installed a new SSD (which is unlikely to be the source of the problem). I now get a 7-14 error on all the USB ports on my mobo (MSI B450 Tomahawk Max), as well as the USB 3.0 ports on my case. Plugging it into a powered USB 3.0 hub works but the audio cuts out every half a minute or so, which causes fps stutters in-game as well. In the Windows Sound Settings page, I can see the audio device switching between my desktop audio and the headset's audio device.

System specs:

AMD 3600

MSI B450 Tomahawk Max

1080ti
