Pavilion CC502 NE
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Games seems to play better when on battery when compared to plugged in.

The power requirements of the Laptop is also met by the charger .

My Lap is a 2 month old 16 GB ram Pavilion CC502-NE with a 4 GB 940MX nVIDIA card along a Intel HD 620 .

Tried modifying the settings on the nVIDIA control panel (Power Management to High Performance,Default as High Performance Nvidia)

Power Plan is also set to High Performance.

Tried installing the graphic drivers for nVIDIA from HP by uninstalling the latest updated ones and also updated the Intel graphics drivers

Was getting 50-60 FPS for GTA 5 on battery and when plugged in the FPS drops to 5-10 for a few sec and then reverts back to 60 FPS.This happens repeatedly every 30 sec when plugged in.

But this is not noticeable on battery.

Please Help!

Hi @Yuwan

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand you are facing issues with playing games when the adapter is plugged in.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

  • How long are you facing this issue?
  • Any hardware or software changes before this happened?

Meanwhile, I would recommend you to follow this link and update the BIOS. Re-start the notebook and check if it works fine.

Keep me posted. 🙂

I've Updated the BIOS drivers and also loaded defaluts  already several times.

I have a 65 W charger. Is that the problem?

No issues other than FPS drop occasionaly.

From the 1st game that I installed ,it seems to lag( 2 months before)

The Laptop was also bought around October.

Hi @Yuwan ,

Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉

Please follow the steps according to the graphics card installed in the computer. 🙂

(AMD)

Here's a video on how to disable the "turbo mode" that causes this issue: Click here

If you aren't able to disable it permanently, use the below steps:

If you are running windows 8 it could be an admin rights problem.

Navigate to this folder:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static

Find CCC.exe, right click>properties>compatibility tab

Tick the 'run this program as an administrator' option and hit ok.

Do the same thing for MOM.exe

You may have to restart the PC for the changes to take effect, then try disabling overdrive, restart the game to see if it fixes it.

(NVIDIA GEFORCE)

As I understand the FPS reduces when the adapter is connected to the PC,

I appreciate that you've attempted the steps mentioned and I'll be more than glad to help you out:

Right-click your desktop background and select NVIDIA Control Panel. You can also find this tool by performing a Start menu (or Start screen) search for NVIDIA Control Panel or by right-clicking the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and selecting Open NVIDIA Control Panel.

To quickly set a system-wide preference, you could use the Adjust image settings with the preview option. For example, if you have old hardware that struggles to play the games you want to play, you may want to select “Use my preference emphasizing” and move the slider all the way to “Performance.” This trades graphics quality for an increased frame rate.

By default, the “Use the advanced 3D image settings” option is selected. You can select Manage 3D settings and change advanced settings for all programs on your computer or just for specific games. NVIDIA keeps a database of the optimal settings for various games, but you’re free to tweak individual settings here. Just mouse-over an option for an explanation of what it does.

If you have a laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology — that is, both NVIDIA and Intel graphics — this is the same place you can choose which applications will use the NVIDIA hardware and which will use the Intel hardware.

(Though the header is different the steps will help get you a fix).

(INTEL GRAPHICS CARD)

Please follow the steps listed below to improve the FPS on your Intel Graphics adapter:

  • Update the graphics card driver

  • Increase the amount of RAM - by increasing the shared memory under system properties > Advanced > Performance settings > Advanced > Change Virtual memory > use the recommended file size for paging.

  • Make sure the graphics card is not in power saving mode - If you are after maximum performance of you Intel HD Graphics, make sure you have turned off all of its power saving features. That is why in order to achieve maximum performance you have to make sure that your Windows power plan is not on Power Saver, you can use the Balanced or the High Performance power plan. You can also click the Intel HD Graphics driver tray icon (it should be near the clock in the taskbar), select Graphics Properties, then click the Power tab and select Maximum Performance.

Please, note that although this tip will certainly improve your Intel HD Graphics' performance it will also increase the power it draws, as well as the heat it generates under heavy load (which is the case for games). Caution is advised, especially if you are on a laptop that experiences temperature problems.

  • Set the 3D preference of Intel HD Graphics to "Performance" - This trick will help you improve the frame rate in games. To apply it click the Intel HD Graphics driver tray icon, select Graphics Properties, then click the 3D tab and move the slider to Performance. In this way, you sacrifice a bit of image quality for improved 3D performance, which should lead to a few more frames per second (FPS)

Keep me posted. 😉
