Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all,

I have a new Omen 30L with a 1 TB SSD (main drive) and a 2 TB disc drive to store games, etc. Can I change out the 2 TB disc drive to a SATA SSD drive? Also, is there another slot for an additional SATA SSD drive? Finally, can I put another M.2 SSD drive in?

Also, if I bought the 750 watt PSU am I able to upgrade my GPU to a 3080?

Thanks! I've upgrade a GPU and PSU in a Pavilion in the past, but that's it. Had the help of a friend installing an ssd drive on it, which worked great.

Hey there, I have a 30L for a while now, the storage upgrade is very easy and will take you 5 minutes, HP were kind enough to pre-route the SATA data and power cables to the cages already, so all you need to do is pull a cage out and mount your new drive there, I have a how to video specifically on the 30L for it too.

As for the GPU, make sure it is shorter then 29cm, that is the clearance between the front cage and the back of the case where the GPU is mounted, in addition the 750W psu is preferable if not a must for 3080, still waiting on 3080 availability to test so I cant confirm on a 100% what is the power draw, but to be safe I would go for 750W.

The second nVME slot as the expert mentioned is configured as RAID, but there are options in the bios to be reconfigured, I will check later today and let you know what can be done.

@droppedc,

The second M.2 SSD is for Raid 0  , so I would suggest you avoid that situation.

PSU and GPU -- if it fits.

Thanks. Yes, Raid 0 doesn't sound great.

I should be able to swap out my 2 TB hdd for an SSD, though, correct? Also, I believe there is a slot under that one for another SATA SSD. Is that also true?

@droppedc,

There are only 2 3.5" hard drive bays.  Do both bays have the HD holder. Any numbers on the HD holder ?

Can I replace the HDD I have now with a 2.5 inch ssd? Thanks!

I'll take a look. I'm thinking of replacing the HDD that's in one of the bays now with a large 2.5 inch SSD card.

HP Recommended

Yes, that's what I added to mine as an extra storage, you would need 4 screws, to mount the ssd, that's it.

Awesome and thanks! Might add two big ones..can't have enough storage haha.

Did you solve your RAM issue? That's pretty annoying that they make it so difficult to upgrade. I got 32 and thought I could upgrade to 64 or even 128 but nope. 😞 32 should be fine but it's annoying to not have the option.

Also, it sounds like maybe we can turn Raid 0 off and then have two M.2's in, though I probably won't mess with that.

The ram problem is really not solvable, we can go to the option of buying super expensive ram form HP or use Ryzen Master/Intel XTU to enable the XMP profiles on the memory. But till HP gives us a proper option in the bios to just enable and disable it, its never going to be perfect, which I think that they will never do, anyway...
