OMEN 30L Desktop GT13-0000i (236B1AV)

When I first got this machine, I updated to the F20 BIOS and enabled XMP to put my RAM to 3200 MHz, rebooted and all was well. I recently updated to F30000 BIOS (the latest according to the F30 BIOS. When I was looking around in the UEFI, I saw that the RAM had been returned to the HP default profile, so I re-enabled XMP (Profile 1), saved and rebooted. Except in stead of going into Windows, it did what it's doing in the video. I eventually had to just turn it off.

Greetings @wolf789

Welcome to the HP Forum.

That's unusual to see a BIOS update mess up XMP if you are using HP factory RAM.

Reset CMOS:

You could disconnect the PC from AC power.

Depress and hold down the power button a few times to drain residual MB power.

Now remove the CR2032 MB battery and let the PC sit for about five minutes.

Reinstall the MB battery.

The PC should now POST unless something else is going on.

Reseat Memory Modules:

You could also try reseating the memory modules if the PC will not POST after doing the CR2032 MB battery procedure.

HP factory RAM should run at XMP after a BIOS update.

It's not HP factory RAM. It's Kingston Fury Beast DDR4. At any rate, I'm not sure what happened, but I turned it on to try to get into the BIOS and it booted normally into Windows. So I guess that's a relief. I was wondering if you could help me make sense of this. The HP Support Assistant says the RAM is running at 3200 MHz, as I want it to, but CPUZ says it's only running at 1196.8. Am I misreading the latter or is there something abnormal happening here? Thanks.  Two different frequencies? Two different frequencies?

Greetings @wolf789

I would go with CPU-Z memory speed and timings.

The RAM is running at (JEDEC) 2400 MT/s.

Many HP PC have problems running XMP.

But you have XMP in the BIOS, is this correct? And you were running at 3200 MT/s before the BIOS update.

I don't know why you can't do 3200 MT/s after a BIOS update.

Yes. I had it before. Would I have better luck going with Profile 2? I used 1 before, but obviously that's no longer choice.

I'll try turning my machine off and discharging it as you described tomorrow.

You would not have to do the MB battery thing unless the MB freaks out after trying XMP again.

Sounds good, let me know how it goes.

I build my PCs using retail MBs.

I generally don't have these types of problems if the RAM is on the MB QVL.
