OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-0000i (393C6AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

I've purchased and OMEN 45L desktop at the end of 2022 and have been having a great time with it. However, I'm planing on moving across the the country for the summer (Chicago to D.C.) and I'm unsure of the best way to transport it as I no longer have the original box. I'm traveling by plane and was planning to take out some of the important components (GPU, Storage, Hard drive, etc.) to pack in my carry-on and to either ship or check-baggage the Desktop case (w/ cooling system, motherboard, and power supply).

I'm just curious if this an ok plan of action, a bad idea, or if there are any alternative methods and or suggestions. Is it possible to get another original box for shipping or what is another way to best pack and pad the case for transport. Any advice would be appreciated.

@JohnJackW , welcome to the Community.

Yes, this sounds like a good plan.  Just make certain that the components that you remove from the computer are wrapped well in bubble wrap.  This should protect them against damage from being bumped.  It would be good to have the case packed in a box similar to the original.  Again, you can use a lot of bubble wrap or styrofoam pellets.

Thank you for your help! The memory, SSD, GPU, and Hard drive have all been removed and wrapped extensively in anti-static bubble wrap. Before closing it up, I secured down the cords and covered the mother board in a sheet of bubble wrap before stuffing a large piece of packing foam into the unit to better protect the internals.

The only problem that remains is transporting the case and other components. I was planning on the checked baggage route, but the unit just barely fits in my largest bag and thats after removing the front bezel. I can pack the top, bottom, and face with foam, but the back corners are still exposed. I'll provide a picture of what it looks like:

The front bezel is whats wrapped the pink non-static bubble wrap. The right side of the unit is resting on a blanket. I have plenty of more bubble wrap and some red FRAGILE stickers to put on the bag, but I'm worried if this will be enough to keep it safe with checked luggage.

@JohnJackW, it looks like you did a great job of packing.  I am glad that you thought to use anti-static bubble wrap.  I forgot to mention that point.
