OMEN by HP 27 inch FHD 240Hz Gaming Monitor - OMEN 27s
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I'm really confused. So I've changed absolutely nothing about monitor. Have it since 4 days ago Yesterday just changed the display port cable to another port and since then I noticed the black borders around the screen edges. Put the display port back into the Geforce GTX 4080 port and it's the same now with the black edges. I know for a fact that I never had these black borders before, and now I have no clue how to get rid of them. I've done all the obvious things like using the right resolution, I'm using the same cable, changed resolution, reinstalled video drivers, reset monitor settings to factory.

So now I don't have a clue what to do, because I've never had this problem and now it just decides to be a problem for no reason.

Can you help please?

Hi @MihaiMoroi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It’s so frustrating when something as simple as switching ports leads to issues you hadn’t seen before, especially when it was working perfectly just days ago.

A few questions to help pinpoint the cause:

  1. Are the black borders only visible when gaming or using certain applications, or do they appear on the desktop as well?
  2. Have you tried connecting the monitor to another device to see if the black borders still appear?
  3. Do the borders change at all when adjusting the scaling or refresh rate?

Meanwhile, try these steps.

Adjust Scaling in Graphics Control Panel: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Display > Adjust desktop size and position, and under Scaling, select Full-Screen to ensure the display fully fits the screen.

Check Monitor Aspect Ratio Settings: Use the monitor’s built-in menu to double-check that the aspect ratio is set to Full or 16:9 (depending on the options available), ensuring no letterboxing or scaling is applied.

Run the Monitor’s Auto-Adjust Feature: Some monitors have an “Auto-Adjust” option accessible in their settings menu. While primarily for analog inputs, it can sometimes correct minor scaling issues on digital inputs as well.

Try Different Cable: Even if the cable was previously fine, switching to a different DisplayPort cable can sometimes resolve screen alignment issues if there’s a subtle defect affecting the signal.

Roll Back or Reinstall Graphics Driver: Although you've reinstalled the drivers, try rolling back to an earlier driver version. Occasionally, the latest drivers can introduce scaling or display issues with high refresh rate monitors.

It should be possible to restore your original screen setup!

Keep me posted for further assistance
