OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-224

So I got this HP OMEN gaming PC about 7-8 years ago, and I recently bought a new PC to replace it. Anyways, I was inspecting the old PC (the OMEN HP) just to see where the wires go and the graphics card cord accidentally disconnected. However this happened when the computer was off. So I plugged it back in and booted the PC up but all I see is a blank/black screen but I am able to move my mouse. I can’t even reach the sign in screen. Please help me, there is still some stuff on the old PC I need to take off before I switch to the new one. Thank you.

My pleasure.

Good to see you fixed the problem.

I did not know what the app readiness service was.

It seems to be an OEM factory image problem.

I don't have any HP PCs at this time.

Greetings @ShawnPChelpme

Welcome to the HP Forum.

What cabling are you referring to?

- The rear HDMI or DVI cable connection from the monitor to the PCIe graphics card rear video out ports. Maybe you connected the monitor to the MB video out.

- Or the internal six or eight pin PCIe power cable which connects directly from the power supply to the graphics card.

You should have video if you correctly reconnected either cable.

If you can't get video on the old PC (you should be able to do this) you can recover data on the old PC by removing the SATA HDD. Then connect this drive to the new PC internally or use an external SATA to USB 3.0 adapter.

My pleasure.

The first image looks like an Ethernet cable. But the second image shows what appears to be a yellow Ethernet cable connection to the MB I/O.

The Ethernet connection would have no impact on video out.

I can't make out the other connections to the MB I/O in the second image. What else is plugged into the MB I/O besides the speaker and Ethernet?

I also see two monitor connections to the graphics card.

I don't know? Try one monitor connection to the graphics card. Maybe your PC has experienced an unrelated component failure.

Do you see and hear tower startup sounds, LEDs, and fans spinning when you start the PC? I can't envision why the unconnected cable in your first image is causing no video if the PC starts up normally.

Hello Bill, I booted the PC up again and it showed that it windows was diagnosing the PC. Afterwards I was able to get into the sign in page and I signed in, however after loading a bit the black/blank screen is back with the mouse able to move. Also, here is the MB I/O. Thanks.

It looks like you have some Windows corruption going on and maybe a graphics card problem.

Try removing the discrete graphics card. Check to see if you can do onboard graphics.

The 870-224 has an i5-7400 with an IGPU. You can use onboard graphics if the 870's rear MB I/O has a DVI port or an HDMI port.

I would remove the 870's HDD. Get an external SATA HDD to USB 3.0 adapter (Amazon or Newegg) so you can connect the HDD to the new PC.

This would be your last resort if if you can't get the 870's video working .

Hello Bill, I did some more research into this issue and I found something that solved it. I had to disable the Service App Readiness from the task manager menu and it got rid of the black screen and everything is back to normal now. Thank you for your efforts and working with me, I appreciate it.
