HP ENVY x360 Convertible Laptop PC 15-ed1000 (169W7AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My laptop is about a year old now. Wouldn’t boot up as it was stuck on a boot loop. Repair guy says it crashed during a software repair. Tried to download windows onto it in case something on it before was corrupted but it isn’t detecting the hard drive in order to put windows onto it. Checked to see if hard drive was disconnected but couldn’t find anything wrong with hardware.

Hi

It sounds like the system drive has failed if Windows installation media can't find the drive. I am surprised the PC Tech did not suggest testing the drive and replacing this drive if tests fail.

I am not sure what "software repair" means.

Run HP Diagnostics to confirm this.

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap "ESC".

Select "F2'. Run component tests. Run HDD/SSD tests.

Thank you for your help!

My laptop is still with the tech so I will get back to you when I’ve picked it up. Do you think this is something I could fix myself, as you mentioned replacing the drive? Or is it better just to take it to someone else to try get it fixed.

Thank you

Hi @giiiiannaaa

My pleasure.

Some HP consumer Laptops are difficult to disassemble. The MB and add in components are now usually located beneath the keyboard. I miss the days when this stuff was easily accessible at the bottom of the chassis.

The Tech should be able to replace the disk, back up data, and reinstall Windows if this is the problem.
