HP Omen 870-224
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my CPU in my Omen to a slightly more powerful version, as I'm seeing it get maxed out in things like Overwatch and a few other games I play (Just Cause 3 being one of them).  The CPU in this build is a 3.0 GHz quad core and I was looking to upgrade to one that runs about 3.5 GHz.

Specifically :

Intel BX80677I57600 7th Gen Core Desktop Processors

The Proccessor is a LGA 1151 Socket which matches the present chipset socket and has the same power requirement as the current version per all the doumentation I've found (65 W).

However, when looking at the Motherboard specs It only lists 4 Processor upgrades:

Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
Processor
TDP
Integrated Graphics
Intel Core i7-7700K (Kabylake) 4.2 GHz Quad Core (only with Ariia+ chassis)
91 W
Intel HD Graphics 630
Intel Core i7-7700 (Kabylake) 3.6 GHz Quad Core
65 W
Intel HD Graphics 630
Intel Core i5-7400 (Kabylake) 3.0 GHz Quad Core
65 W
Intel HD Graphics 630
Intel Core i3-7100 (Kabylake) 3.9 GHz Dual Core (only with Twister chassis)
51 W
Intel HD Graphics 630

Are these the only upgrades I can purchase from an outside source or just the suggested/retail upgrades by HP?

Thank you for your assistance!  So far I'm loving my Omen it just needs a little bump in one department and it will be the absolute perfect gaming machine for me!

Thank you!
Sy

The i7-7700 has the same Wattage, Stepping and is 100% compatible.

Thank you so much, This is a huge help.  While I'd love to go up to the i7 I am unfortunately, slightly limited by the overall cost of it at the moment.  However, your site does list the i5-7600 as a suitable upgrade as well and gives me just enough of a boost that I shouldn't see anymore issues with the games I'm playing

Thank you again for your quick response and extremely helpful reference!

I am about to do the same thing - and my only question now is should I replace the cpu cooling fan with a more powerful/efficient one.  Thoughts?
