Hello! I'm looking to buy the HP Gaming R5 RX 5500, but before I do so I have a quick question.

This gaming tower has an AMD Ryzen 5 5500G and an AMD Radeon RX 5500. I was wondering if it would make sense to replace the RX 5500 with a GTX 1660 ti?

If so, would I be able to swap them out without replacing anything else in the computer?

Thanks!

hi

we can't answer without knowing what computer you have!
but if it makes sense?
Just compare the two models, if one is more powerful than the other why not, but if not, then no!

Some elements may therefore not apply to you
To be able to answer you effectively, we need some information

we need the exact model of your computer, and the product number
To find it follow this
for a desktop computer

HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? | HP® Customer Support
and for a laptop
HP Notebook PCs - How Do I Find My Product Name or Number? | HP® Customer Support

Give the full name with the product number P / N

this is not a model:
HP Desktop M01-F1xxx
the requested product number must look like this
Product Number: 9EE50AA # ABA
the model corresponding to this number will therefore be
HP Desktop - M01-F1033wb

Give the full version of windows

for windows 10 type winver in the search box
if you give the best information
your problem could have a solution more quickly (depending on the difficulty, of course)

@phoenix_tl,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

What @Prométhée means comes down to three things which I can answer for you:

A.) Comparative graphics performance: please see: UserBenchmark: AMD RX 5500 vs Nvidia GTX 1660-Ti, which shows that the GTX 1660 Ti would offer a significant (gaming) improvement over the RX 5500,

B.) Power supply needs: both the RX 5500 and the GTX 1660 Ti require a minimum of 450 watt power supply. I imagine they are powered by the same number of PCIe power connections -likely one 6+2-pin PCIe power connection.

Meaning, that if your RX 5500 worked just fine, the GTX 1660 Ti would work fine too, and you don't need a power upgrade,

C.) Physical dimensions: the GTX 1660 Ti actually needs to fit inside your desktop -which I assume it does.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

hi

ok, @phoenix_tl

but I would even say more on this account, all graphics cards are not equal..
You may have differences between some models
https://us.msi.com/Graphics-Cards/

https://us.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-RTX-3060-Ti-GAMING-X-8G-LHR/Specification

600W Recommended PSU (W)

Power Connectors 8-pin x 1 + 6-pin x 1

Boost: 1770 MHz

Card Dimension(mm)

278 x 131 x 51 mm

https://us.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-RTX-3060-Ti-VENTUS-3X-8G-LHR/Specification

Power Connectors 8-pin x 1

Boost: 1665 MHz

Card Dimension(mm)

316 x 120 x 42 mm

Depending on the model chosen, it may be more or less efficient, the card more or less large, etc.
If you need to change the power supply, have you planned for this, ..?
sometimes it is quite limited with certain HP computer models, hence the need to know your model in order to respond effectively

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Question-about-Upgrading-GPU-and...

that said, I see that you have already made a request here, without return after the answer..
therefore, if you have not yet bought the computer, in this case, consider changing the model, for a model already equipped, you will not have the unpleasant surprise of replacing other elements, such as the power supply so insufficient..
