HP Omen 870-244
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I've been unable to change the light color (on the front of the tower) on my HP Omen 870-244 for a little while now. The Omen Control app doesn't seem to affect the colors at all. It simply just cycles through the colors (which is what it has done since I got it). Initially, I was able to change the colors, but I have been unable to for some time now.

I have made some upgrades to the machine (larger power supply, new graphics card, SSD). Could any of those affect the ability to change the tower colors?

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that you're unable to change lights colour on HP omen desktop,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
  • Have tried installing the OMEN Command Center?
  • Have you tried updating the drivers?
  • Are you getting any error message or code?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Try installing the System Event Utility:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp69001-69500/sp69229.exe

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!

Hello. Thank you for getting back with me.

My product number is: Z5M59AA#ABA

I just double-checked all updates (from Windows Update, Store and the HP Support Assistant). I also installed the Omen Command Center app you mentioned, but it looks like that's just for game streaming. Did you mean the "Omen Control" app? If so, that's what I'm using to try and change the light color, but it's not changing anything when I modify the selection.

I also installed the HP System Event Utility you mentioned, but that didn't seem to make any difference. The lights are still just cycling between the different colors, and changing the selection in the Omen Control app seems to have no affect.

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your post!

It's strange that visiting the driver/download support page for my PC (870-244) didn't list the Omen Control app anywhere. On the page for your PC that you linked in your post (https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/OMEN-by-HP-870-000-Desktop-PC-series/11084748/model...), I downloaded the Omen Control app from that page, and restarted. Now my lights are controllable again.

Thanks again for taking the time to post what you've dicsovered. And hopefully HP will get this issue ironed out, and anyone else that comes across this post will be able to regain control of their lights.
