I am currently trying to undervolt my cpu since the temperature is going through the roof even though the usage is barely over 40-50% on a few cores. It should not be the fans/airflow that is the problem (though I have not change the stock thermal paste on the cpu which might also help). But I have tried to use both the OMEN gaming hub and the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility but none of them are letting me lower the core voltage offset below 0 due to undervolt protection. The BIOS does not seem to contain any option regarding this protection, so I am wondering if there is another way I can undervolt the cpu or disable the undervolt protection.
BIOS version: F.20-09/14/2023
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700K

Hi @Svens1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Undervolting a CPU can help reduce temperatures, but recent hardware and firmware updates have implemented measures to prevent undervolting due to security vulnerabilities (e.g., Plundervolt). Here's a detailed approach to address your issue:
Steps to Undervolt Your CPU on an OMEN 40L
Update BIOS and Drivers:
- Ensure your BIOS is up-to-date. Sometimes, BIOS updates add new features or settings.
- Check if there are any updates available for your system from the HP Support website.
Check for BIOS Options:
- Restart your computer and enter the BIOS setup by pressing the appropriate key (usually F10, Del, or Esc) during boot.
- Thoroughly check all sections, especially advanced CPU settings, for any mention of "Undervolt Protection," "Voltage Offset," or "CPU Voltage Control."
- If you find such options, enable the ability to undervolt or disable undervolt protection.
Use ThrottleStop:
- Download ThrottleStop, a utility that can allow undervolting on some systems even when other methods fail.
- Run ThrottleStop, and go to the "FIVR" (Fully Integrated Voltage Regulator) tab.
- Check the "Unlock Adjustable Voltage" box.
- Adjust the "CPU Core Voltage Offset" slider to a negative value. Start with a small offset (e.g., -50mV) and gradually increase while monitoring stability and temperatures.
- Click "Apply" and check if the temperatures decrease.
Alternative Cooling Solutions:
- Replace the stock thermal paste with a high-quality thermal compound. This can significantly improve thermal conductivity and reduce temperatures.
- Consider upgrading your CPU cooler to a more efficient aftermarket solution (e.g., a high-performance air cooler or an all-in-one liquid cooler).
- Ensure proper case airflow: manage cable clutter, add more case fans, or adjust the fan curves for better cooling performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the response!
However, when I look for the undervolt protection or any ability to undervolt in the BIOS I cannot find anything that will enable me to undervolt the cpu. I did uptate the BIOS to the F.24-04/10/2024 version but did not find such options with the updated version either.
I have also tried to use ThrottleStop, but when I change the 'Offset Voltage' to e.g. -50mV and click apply, the Offset to the right does not change. The setting itself gets changed and applied, but the Offset in the upper right table still says '+0.0000'. I can increase the Offset Voltage which gets applied and displayed in the table, but not decrease it. I saw somewhere that I could try to deactivate the 'Virtualization' in the BIOS to get around this error, so I did, but it did not help in this case. Is there another way to undervolt the cpu or something else I can do with the BIOS that will enable this?
