I’ve recently got the HP Omen 34C 165 Hz and bought it to use on my PS5. The monitor is great but the only thing is it doesn’t fit the full screen it just partially fills it and I have black borders on the edges.
Since the PS5 doesn’t support the aspect ratio this monitor runs is there anyway for me to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 (which is what I believe the PS5 and most of its games run on).
I’ve had a look on the onboard settings on the monitor but haven’t seen anything to do so.
Any help would be much appreciated thanks

Hi @Abu-Bakr22,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the HP OMEN 34c monitor has an aspect ratio of 21:9, while the PS5 typically outputs at a 16:9 aspect ratio. Since the PS5 doesn't support ultra-wide resolutions natively, you'll get black bars on the sides when using this monitor with the PS5.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to change the aspect ratio on the monitor itself to 16:9, as the monitor's onboard settings do not include an option to alter the aspect ratio.
However, you can try a few workarounds to improve the experience:
1. Use the Zoom/Stretch Feature (If Available)
Some monitors have a zoom or stretch feature that can scale the 16:9 image to fit the 21:9 screen. Check your monitor's settings menu for any option related to scaling, zooming, or stretching.
2. Adjust Display Settings on the PS5
While the PS5 doesn't support changing the aspect ratio directly, you can try adjusting the display area settings:
- Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Choose Adjust Display Area and follow the instructions to fit the display to your screen.
3. Live with the Black Bars
If the above options aren't satisfactory, you might need to accept the black bars on the sides. This is the most straightforward approach and ensures that the image quality remains intact without distortion.
- Game Settings: Some games have their own aspect ratio or display settings. Check the in-game options to see if you can adjust the display area.
- Firmware Updates: Ensure your monitor has the latest firmware, as manufacturers sometimes release updates that add new features or improve compatibility with different devices.

I hope this helps.
