My PC makes a clicking noise when it's running. I thought it was the fan at first but it does it even when the fan is off. I've had this thing for about 9 months and the clicking hasn't gotten louder but it has not stopped either.
Best Buy sort of blew me off when I took it in back in March (I paid for the protection plan for a year when I bought this PC) but I'm worried maybe I should harass them again to look at the problem deeper. Any suggestions?

Hello @DenimDave55
Sorry to hear that you are having problems ... and I would like to help you.
Try ...
(1) Update BIOS
HP Consumer Desktop PC BIOS Update | F.13 Rev.A | 13.7 MB | May 5, 2022 | Download |
Why should you install the update ?

Quote: "
Updating the BIOS is recommended as standard maintenance of the computer. It can also help resolve the following issues:
- An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
- The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
- HP Support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.
"
(2) Reboot
(3) Let BIOS be installed until it's completely done !
(4) Test and again and check for <clicking noise>
(5) Please report your results

hi @DenimDave55
Did you finally identify the source of the noise?
It could come from anywhere, it would be necessary to open and try to understand what makes this noise!
It's up to you, but in this case a bios update will not solve a problem with the power supply unit, for example!

Hello @DenimDave55
Like @Prométhée said, try to locate where the noice is comming from.
If <pulsing/clicking> is coming from electronic component (power supply or mainboard...) service is required.

Hi
" It's in the area of the power unit towards the rear "
Indeed try to listen, attentively, open computer, you should be able to identify the source!
But as you mention the power supply, I've seen a similar problem before, and that was the source!
In any case, it doesn't seem normal, get your warranty working before it's too late.

Hello @DenimDave55
Great to hear, so it's the fan underneath the hard drive, right ?
=> Check for Dust/Dirt, if it's mechanical error => replace fan !
