I've been having an issue with my hp compaq where it will not boot up, I'll turn it on and the keyboard will light up but nothing on my monitor or mouse and then after 30 seconds or so the fan will come on and run constantly. I did manage to get past this for a bit by spamming f2 as I turned it on which worked and loaded to bios menu but one day it turned itself off and now will not boot back up, any idea how I can fix this issue/get it to boot again?

Hi @CJJUT,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your device having boot issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Here are troubleshooting steps to fix your HP Compaq that won’t boot:
1. Basic Checks
Check Monitor & Connections
- Ensure the monitor is plugged in and turned on.
- Try using a different HDMI/VGA cable and different port.
- If using a dedicated GPU, switch to the motherboard’s display port to rule out GPU failure.
Check Power Supply
- If your PC has a power light and fans spin but there’s no display, power off and unplug the PC.
- Try a different power outlet or power strip.
- If using a desktop PC, check the power supply unit (PSU) by pressing the PSU test button (if available).
2. Hard Reset
- Turn off the PC and disconnect the power cable.
- Remove the battery (for laptops).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect the power and try turning it on.
3. Boot to BIOS (If Possible)
- Turn on the PC and spam the F10 key (some models use F2, Esc, or Del) immediately.
- If you get into BIOS, your hardware is working, but Windows may be corrupt.
- Reset BIOS to default settings and restart.

4. Reseat RAM and Components
- Turn off and unplug the PC.
- Open the case and remove the RAM sticks.
- Clean the RAM contacts with an eraser and reinsert them firmly.
- If you have two RAM sticks, try booting with one at a time in different slots.
- Also, reinsert the GPU and storage drive connections.
5. Check for Beeping Sounds or Error Codes
- If your PC beeps, count the beeps and check HP’s beep code guide.
- If there are blinking LED lights, check HP’s troubleshooting guide for what they mean.
6. Remove CMOS Battery (BIOS Reset)
- Unplug the PC and open the case.
- Remove the small silver coin-cell battery from the motherboard.
- Wait 10 minutes, then reinstall it.
- Reconnect power and try booting again.
7. Boot Without Storage Drives
- Disconnect the hard drive/SSD and try booting into BIOS.
- If BIOS loads, the issue may be a corrupt Windows installation.
- You may need to reinstall Windows using a bootable USB.
8. Test with a Different Power Supply (For Desktop PCs)
- If nothing works, swap the PSU with a known working one.
- If it boots with a new PSU, your power supply is faulty.
Let me know what happens after trying these! 😊
