My Omen 40L won't turn on after 6 months. It had locked up and would not accept any inputs. I held the power button until it turned off. Now it won't turn on again. My guess is a power supply failure. Is there a fix that I'm missing before I submit a warranty claim?

Hi @aggieroadmiles,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like a power supply issue could indeed be the culprit. Here are some steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.

Basic Checks

Power Source:

  • Ensure the power outlet is functional by plugging in another device.
  • Try a different power cable to rule out a faulty cable.

Reset:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the PC.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-30 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cable and try to power on the PC again.

Power Supply Unit (PSU) Check

PSU Switch:

  • Make sure the switch on the back of the PSU is in the 'On' position.

PSU Test:

  • If you have access to a multimeter, you can test the PSU output. Alternatively, you can use a PSU tester if you have one.
  • Check the internal cables connecting the PSU to the motherboard to ensure they are securely connected.

Internal Component Check

Reseat Components:

  • Open the case and carefully reseat the RAM, GPU, and any other components to ensure they are securely connected.
  • Check all power connections to the motherboard and components.

Visual Inspection:

  • Look for any obvious signs of damage or burnt components on the motherboard, PSU, and other parts.

Bypass and Test

  1. Breadboarding:
    • Disconnect all peripherals and non-essential components (like additional hard drives, USB devices, etc.).
    • Try to power on the PC with just the essential components connected (CPU, one stick of RAM, and the GPU if there's no onboard graphics).

Advanced Steps

  1. Replace the PSU:
    • If possible, try using a known working PSU to see if the PC powers on. This will confirm if the PSU is the issue.
    • Ensure the replacement PSU meets the power requirements for your Omen 40L.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
