Microsoft Windows 11

My SSD (ESSENCORE NVMe Gen3) has failed the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows application twice, with Error Code 305 (Long Drive Self-Test) and Error Code 303 (Short Drive Self-Test).

However, all other independent checks on the same drive have passed cleanly:
- HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI (pre-boot, Startup Menu) - Short DST and Long DST both PASSED
- Seagate SeaTools (Windows) - Short Self Test and Long Self Test both PASSED
- CrystalDiskInfo - Health 98% (Good), 0 Media/Data Integrity Errors, 0 Error Log Entries

Only the HP Windows Diagnostics application has shown failures; every other test - including HP's own UEFI-level test - passes without issue.

Drive details:
- Model: ESSENCORE NVMe Gen3 SSD
- Capacity: 1024.2 GB (954 GB formatted)
- Serial Number: ESP3D1P27CNA09186
- Firmware: VC3S500S
- Interface: NVM Express 1.4, PCIe 3.0 x4
- Power On Hours: 520
- Power On Count: 1615

System: HP Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fb0xxx

This drive was installed as a replacement approximately 6 months ago after my previous SSD in the same laptop failed. It is currently still within its 1.5-year warranty period.

Greetings @Muditvictus001

Very nice troubleshooting!

HP boot time UEFI diagnostic results look good.

It sounds like a false positive if both: Crystal Disk Mark and Seagate Sea Tools indicate the SSD is good to go.

Plus I would guess your Windows experience is pleasurable since you have not indicated having intermittent Windows stability issues.

Have you tried a Windows chkdsk (logical and physical errors) to see how it goes?

Regards

Hi! I haven’t tried it yet, and I’m not planning to at this point. I had my laptop serviced today, started a full backup, and reinstalled everything. With everything safely backed up, even if the SSD were to fail, I wouldn’t have to worry about losing any data—the only thing I’d need to deal with would be replacing the SSD within the warranty.
