Hi @SSK2002,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I am sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue where half of your HP laptop screen turns black, and temporarily putting the laptop to sleep and then turning it back on resolves the issue, I would request you to please follow the steps:

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager → Display adapters.
  • Right‑click your GPU (Intel/AMD/NVIDIA) → Update driver.
  • Or download the latest driver directly from HP’s support page for your model.

Update BIOS/Firmware

  • Visit HP’s support site → enter your laptop’s serial/model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update.
  • BIOS updates often fix sleep/wake display bugs.

Check Display Settings

  • Right‑click desktop → Display settings.
  • Ensure resolution and refresh rate are set correctly.
  • Reset scaling to default (100%) to rule out software glitches.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Restart → press Esc → F2.
  • Run the Display Test.

External Monitor Test

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor.
  • If the external display works fine, the issue is with the laptop’s screen or internal cable.
  • If the external monitor also shows problems, it’s a GPU/driver issue.

Take care and have an amazing day!
