Hi.

I have bought an HP OMEN 27q monitor a month ago, I've noticed when HDR is enabled, then the entire monitor forcefully reduces the brightness to where EVERYTHING is darker.

There's no OSD setting, no powerplan setting, no nothing setting, this is absolutely stupid.

Hi @vrs2210,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When HDR (High Dynamic Range) is enabled on HP OMEN 27q monitors, it can affect the perceived brightness of your content. HDR content often requires the monitor to display a wider range of colors and contrasts, which can sometimes make the overall brightness appear lower than when HDR is disabled. This is a common behavior across many displays when HDR is turned on, as HDR settings optimize content for detail and color accuracy rather than simple brightness.

Troubleshooting Steps

Adjustment in OSD: While you mentioned there's no OSD setting visible, ensure that you've thoroughly checked the "Image" and "Color" settings within the OSD to see if there are any manual adjustments available specifically for HDR brightness.

HDR Clipping Setting: Verify if there is an option related to "HDR clipping level" or similar in the OSD that lets you manage the maximum brightness available for HDR content. Some settings might be accessible when you are in HDR mode.

Video Level Settings: Sometimes adjusting video level settings from full range to limited range, or vice versa, can affect how brightness is perceived in HDR mode.

Firmware Update: Ensure your monitor's firmware is up-to-date. Manufacturers, including HP, release firmware updates https://support.hp.com/us-en that can optimize display settings and capabilities.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hello.

No offense; this is exactly the solutions ChatGPT gave me shortly after I posted this, as predicted none of them work, as both you and the AI agent misunderstood what I said completely.

I never said my general brightness is lower when using HDR, I'm saying the entire screen dims when dark content is being displayed with HDR enabled, and by dimming I mean its like reducing brightness to 50% automatically.

HI @vrs2210,

I am sorry for the ongoing issue. Kindly refer to the steps below and check:

1. Windows HDR Settings

HDR Settings in Windows: Since you've mentioned Auto HDR is on, go to Settings > System > Display > HDR settings (this path might slightly vary). Ensure that "Play HDR games and apps" is toggled to your preference, but it sounds like you want HDR enabled without the adaptive dimming.

Advanced Display Settings: Check for any additional options under the advanced display settings in Windows that might control dynamic contrast or adaptive brightness features.

2. Monitor On-Screen Display (OSD) Settings

Monitor Settings: Sometimes, the issue can be with the monitor's own settings rather than Windows. Access the on-screen display (OSD) menu of your LG monitor and look for any dynamic contrast, energy saving, or auto brightness settings, and disable them.

3. Windows Power Options

Power Options: Although you've mentioned that the option seems to be missing, it's worth double-checking. Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Look for the display settings here and ensure that adaptive brightness is turned off, if available.

4. Update or Rollback Drivers

Update Monitor Driver: Ensure your monitor driver is up to date. Sometimes, Windows uses a generic PnP monitor driver, but installing the specific driver from LG for your model might give you more control.

Rollback GPU Driver: If this issue started after a GPU driver update, consider rolling back to a previous version where you didn't experience this problem.

Do let us know how it goes.

Regards

Did you not read what I said at all?

I already said: "There's no OSD setting, no powerplan setting, no nothing setting, this is absolutely stupid."

And for drivers; I've already rolled back, installed new ones, done a 360 flip, nothing worked.
