Product: Omen by HP Obelisk Gaming Desktop, 875-0160
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just received this Desktop a few days ago and, so far, im loving it. Finally got around to installing Steam and started playing Shadow of The Tomb Raider.  As soon as i started playing fans on the desktop became really loud.  Is there a setting where i can adjust fan speeds?

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

 

Congrats on your new PC.

 

Games will stress the graphics card and/or the processor temps and PCH temps. Do you know what fan(s) is(are) causing the noise? Have you checked: graphics card temps, motherboard temps, and CPU temps when stressing the system?

 

One or more fans are kicking into high gear for a reason when you are playing games.

 

I would talk to HP about this (Link).

 

HP generally does not provide BIOS tweaks for fan curves or overclocking.

 

 I can tell you other folks in this Forum, with Obelisk PCs, have had some temperature problems.

HP may still have the "setting the minimum fan speed in BIOS" option.  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04740290

That's probably all HP has to offer as far as system fans go.  

 

Windows 10 only offers power level settings which can effect CPU fan speed. (control panel>hardware and sound>power options>change plan settings>change advanced power settings>advanced settings>processor power management>system cooling policy).

 

A free third party downloadable software option to control and monitor fan speeds [edit]

Read reviews about it online first.  It has its pros and cons.

 

There are third party physical fan controller switches that control case fan speeds by connecting your case fans directly into the switch, but the HP Obelisk doesn't have any drive bays to install them in.  The BIOS that HP uses may not play nice with those switches because you might get warnings that your case fans aren't connected to the motherboard. 

 

Personally, I don't like messing with all the above.  They either don't offer the best solution or there is constant tinkering involved wasting time.  In my personal opinion I would replace the case fans and CPU coolers with either "be quiet!" fans and CPU coolers https://www.bequiet.com/en or "Noctua"  fans and CPU coolers [edit] Read reviews about them online where reviewers perform noise level tests comparing them to stock case and CPU cooler fans.

Thaks all who have replied!  Looks like this has been fixed.  TH PC went though a bunch of updates including a BIOS update over the weekend.  Fan noise has been eliminated.
