I did try the 8436 option and that’s the one I get the error message  about not being same size. I have tried the windows B and. V multiple times and doesn’t seem to work. I’m just very frustrated but this whole thing

I really appreciate your effort in making these steps to help everyone affected by this disaster. I have spent hours on trying to figure out what was wrong with my pc until I discovered this discussion. I am in the same boat but HP has removed the older bios F.55 for some reason. I have the 8433 motherboard and they only offer the F.34 for 8436. I know you have a lot of request to email the older bios file but it would be appreciated if you could email that to me.

Hi @Strykerfyre

Using any older BIOS installation file for the correct MB should solve your problem.

I am confused. You have a 8433 MB. Why are you checking BIOS updates for a 8436 MB? I don't have the required file. The Forum discourages this activity.

I don't think @pcgraphix is continuously checking this thread.

THIS WORKED FOR ME!!! I can't thank you enough for laying out easy steps to follow to get my PC back up and running. I found the old Bios bin file on the HP website. Use the address below if you have the same PC described by the user, click on revision history, then find the one that says F.55. I am ecstatic that this worked!!!

I took my PC HP Pavilion Gaming Tower 690-0028 with the automatic installed infected F.57 firmware and optional 15.57.0.0 Windows update I manually downloaded and installed in to Need A Nerd here in Invercargill here in New Zealand - they are excellent computer consultants and repairers. The Technician whom I understand and believe to be highly skilled and experienced performed every trick in his mind to repair the infected BIOS but couldn't repair it. Does that give me confidence I can repair it? Er...no. I have informed him of this Community and solution offered. He said it could be interesting to see if HP comes up with a replacement firmware however I'm not stupid enough to know HP will do no such thing. It's a pie-in-the-sky miniscule issue to it/them so better off not investing time, money, or any other resources in to fixing THIER ERROR. To HP what's a few irate customers? Better to lose a few customers than increase costs it would need to do to FIX THIER ERROR It's BUGGED/INFECTED F.57 firmware that it released in to my computer. Unless HP does create a replacement firmware to repair its bugged infected F.57 firmware then it will definitely lose my custom  - but HP doesn't care about a two-bit small time Kiwi consumer who's HP Pavilion Gaming Tower 690-0028 a has been infected and is effectively now completely useless. Why would it when there's so much corporate business it can still achieve. Am I angry? No. No point. I'm a 59 year old trauma hemipelvectomy left leg amputee i.e. hip and pelvis amputated plus I suffered several serious internal issues as a result of my near-death motorcycle accident here in New Zealand in 1990 when I was 26. I'm very fortunate to be alive. I care about mainly about people. I use my now dead HP Pavilion Gaming Tower 690-0028 a to Peer Support new amputees as I am a Peer Support Volunteer for the New Zealand Artificial Limb Service. Now I can no longer perform my role as I need my computer to do that. What would HP care about that or me for that matter. It's too busy making record profits for its shareholders.

I did exactly the same thing on Sunday 26th February 2023...and now my HP Pavilion Gaming Tower 690-0028 a is in hospital terminally ill. Even a highly skilled technician at Need A Nerd here in Invercargill in New Zealand cannot fix it and he's tried every trick in his mind to repair the corrupted BIOS. I don't know what to do next. I'm a Volunteer Peer Support for the New Zealand Artificial Limb Service and desperately need my PC for Peer Supporting new amputees. I do all my Peer Support on my PC. I'm in utter 'limbo' literally! I've only had my HP Pavilion Gaming Tower 690-0028 a for 3 years and this has happened. It cost a lot of money to buy and install to our home. My Volunteer Peer Support is so important to me as I know new amputees need it. I really hope your computer can be repaired. Best wishes to you.

Hi @Willnevabuyanot

What condition is your PC in? Can you load Windows but the PC is unstable? Are you stuck at reinstalling Windows?

Or do you have no video and no USB I/O?

This thread has a fix if you have video and USB support.

Check this Link if your PC is "bricked". A local PC Tech may be able to reprogram the BIOS if the BIOS chip is soldered to the MB.

Contact HP Support for factory service.

Last option is to check eBay or similar sites for an exact replacement MB.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Tower 690-0028a DT PC is only 3 years old, purchased in January 2020 at Noel Leeming a local retailers here in Invercargill, New Zealand it cost $2,000 plus installation fee. It came with a 1 year warranty that has obviously expired.

The Computer Technician at Need A Nerd in Invercargill has tried everything he possibly can do to repair the infected BIOS however it keeps trying to restore/reopen I understand so is effectively terminal. This is deeply concerning to me. If the Technician can't fix the PC then I don't believe I can as that's exactly why I took it to the experts! I asked if a new MB would fix it and was told it probably would...However there's no guarantee. So if I buy a new MB and it won't fix the PC then it's a complete waste of time, money, and resources. I wonder now if I will simply invest in a new PC that will definitely NOT BE A HP PAVILION GAMING TOWER 690-0028a, and I will NEVER buy another HP PC ever again. That is the only way I can voice my disgust in HP as this should never have happened and is the result of HP releasing an infected firmware update; F.57 in to my PC. This is NOT my mistake/error it is HP and I bet the people responsible will be carrying on as if nothing has happened when they should be severely reprimanded for such an INCOMPETENT ERROR. Releasing an INFECTED firmware update to HP consumers is totally unacceptable on behalf of HP!!!
