Geforce RTX 3060

My RTX 3060 fan tries to start (Jitters) but does not fully spin up. This repeats every couple seconds (I have attached a video to show it). I have updated drivers, checked BIOS, Changed the Temp Curve, cleaned the PC, reseated the cables, removed the card/ disassembled the fan assembly and cleaned it, reseated the card itself, nothing has helped. Is the GPU/fan a lost cause? or is there something else I should look at doing before purchasing a new one.

Hi @DJSquared1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding jittering noise!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like you're facing a frustrating issue with your RTX 3060 GPU fan, where it's jittering but not spinning properly, causing overheating. Since you've already tried several troubleshooting steps like cleaning the fan, reseating cables, and updating drivers.
Try these steps:

1. Check Fan Control Settings:

  • Software: Use MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision X1 to adjust the fan curve. Increase fan speed and check if it stabilizes.

2. Check PSU (Power Supply):

  • Ensure your PSU is providing enough power (especially the 12V PCIe connector).
  • If possible, test with a different PSU.

3. Inspect Fan and Motor:

  • Disassemble and clean the fan: Dust can cause irregular fan behavior.
  • Lubricate the fan motor (if you’re comfortable).
  • If this doesn’t help, the fan motor might need to be replaced.

4. Reapply Thermal Paste:

  • Overheating can cause issues, so reapply thermal paste to the GPU and check the thermal pads.

5. Update Drivers and BIOS:

  • Ensure your GPU drivers and BIOS are up to date.
  • Update motherboard BIOS if available.

6. Test on Another System:

  • Test the GPU in a different PC to see if the issue persists.

7. Disable Conflicting Software:

  • Disable any third-party overclocking or fan control software that might be conflicting.

Try these steps and let me know if the issue persists!
