My HP Omen is eleven months old and the other day the GPU failed. I can boot into windows and use my browser or discord just fine. However if I boot up any game even ones that are a decade old the system immediately crashes.

I've tried to update the graphic card drivers and even factory reset my system. The problem still remains, every time I boot up any game, that upto now worked perfectly the system crashes.

My concern is that HP installed a PSU that is too small to handle the load of the video card.

This HP Omen has a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070

HP put a 500w PSU in the system. Nvidia's website very clearly says they recommend a minimum of 650w for this card.

I've taken my system back to beat buy to be repaired under warranty. But I'm concerned even if it's fixed or replaced this will still be a problem.

You have an HP RTX 3070 and it is rated for 550 watts

Get system replaced under warranty.

If BestBuy replaces the 3070 make sure they use an HP version

Okay but that still is problematic because the PSU is MAX 500W

Why would HP install a PSU that is by default not rated for the hardware they're using? It's as if it's built to fail.
