OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-115se
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello. I recently purchased a used 870-115se for my son, mistakenly thinking it came with the GTX 1060 6GB GPU. This comes with the 3GB version. Is it possible to upgrade this GPU? I’m trying to keep the price down. I’m only looking for one with 4GB VRAM minimum, as that is the minimum recommended for his video editing software. I was thinking of replacing it with GTX 1060 6GB, but I am confused because there are models made by different manufacturers.

@Dustin22,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your son's OMEN By HP Desktop PC - 870-115se (V9B15AA), according to: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05320663, is fitted with the Thimphu motherboard which is 24-pin ATX-power enabled, and according to: https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=V9B15AA, is powered with an ATX 500-watt power supply with HP p/n: 860625-801 ("Power Supply - GNRC, 500W ATX ES6 Bron Picolit Twstr").

This is nice, because this PSU comes with one 6+2-pin PCIe power connector, giving you more GPU options.

In my opinion, if you are looking for a decent graphics card with 4+GB of VRAM and at least as powerful as a GTX 1060 6GB, look no further than the GTX 1660 Super 6GB GDDR6, which can be purchased at the moment very inexpensively (starting at $120) via eBay: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=nvidia+geforce+gtx+1660+super+6gb&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDe....

Look, this is but one of many options (the GTX 1660 Ti 6GB is another great affordable option) but should be mentioned.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
