Hey community, how are u?

I have regular GPU/DIrectX freezes while playing BF2042 and I hear it might be a game-specific issue that can only be solved via gpu over/under-clocking.

So 2 questions for you to munch on:

1) How come my over/underclock settings via Omen Gaming Hub have to be reset after very reboot? I'm new to overclocking but this is particularly annoying.

2) Have you heard of this particular BF2042 graphic bug that is resistant to all common solutions and results in video freezes/blackout?

Cheers.

Hi @Litlbigman

Welcome to HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Thanks for laying that out so clearly—those GPU/DirectX freezes in Battlefield 2042 can be maddening, especially when you’ve already tried the usual fixes. Let’s tackle both of your questions:

1️⃣ Why Do OMEN Gaming Hub Overclock Settings Reset After Reboot?

This is a known limitation of the OMEN Gaming Hub’s current overclocking implementation. The app doesn’t persist custom overclock settings across reboots unless you manually reapply them or use a saved profile. Here’s what you can try:

  • Create and apply a custom profile in OMEN Gaming Hub:
    1. Open OMEN Gaming Hub.
    2. Go to the Overclocking tab.
    3. Choose Custom or Intelligent overclocking.
    4. After tuning, save your settings as a profile.
    5. Reapply the profile manually after each reboot.

Unfortunately, OMEN Gaming Hub doesn’t currently support auto-loading profiles at startup. Some users have requested this feature, so hopefully HP considers it in future updates.

2️⃣ BF2042 GPU/DirectX Freezes and Blackouts

Yes, this issue has been widely reported—especially after recent Windows or driver updates. Players have experienced black screens, freezing, and DirectX errors, often mid-match. Here’s what’s surfaced from the community and EA forums:

  • A recent workaround involves disabling secondary display adapters (like integrated graphics) via Device Manager.
  • Some players have seen improvement by clearing the EA App cache, logging out/in, and restarting the system.
  • Others have experimented with underclocking or adjusting GPU power limits, which can stabilize performance in BF2042’s more demanding scenes.

While these aren’t official fixes, they’ve helped reduce crashes for some users. EA hasn’t released a definitive patch yet, so it’s a bit of trial and error.

If you’d like, I can help walk you through a safe underclocking setup or explore GPU driver tuning options that don’t require registry edits. You’ve already done a great job narrowing this down—let’s keep pushing for a stable setup.
