Greetings @_Keven

My pleasure.

As you previously stated the power supply could also be causing the problem. It's too bad you seem to be having a component problem but It would be better if the PSU is faulty.

A 4090 draws a lot of power, especially when running a synthetic stress test such as FurMark.

I had mentioned trying an older Nvidia driver because the latest drivers were causing some problems on Nvidia: 4000 series and 3000 series graphics cards. Did you ever try an older Nvidia driver?

I would try an Nvidia driver released prior to the Nvidia 5000 series graphics cards.

Hey Bill,

I've got another follow up. So for the first time since I've been experiencing this issue I got an actual blue screen, and then shutdown, rather than just completely losing power and shutting down. I ran the windows dump files on WinDbg and I'm not entirely sure but it says this was caused from ctxusbmon.

    Information from resource tables:

I use Citrix sometimes for work, and noticed its constantly running in the background even when I'm not using it. I installed citrix on this pc a few weeks ago. I can't recall if this issue started the weekend prior or right after installing citrix though.

Its also odd that I got a blue screen this time around (and it occurred when launching a game rather than 20-30 minutes into playing it) when all of the other crashes before and after this happened haven't. Maybe its just a coincidence? I completely closed citrix from running in the background and tried running furmarks. It made it to 20 minutes with no crashes. I'll do some more testing tomorrow with citrix closed and see if I get any more crashes. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Edit: didn't see your previous message, but yes I did install older drivers from 12/24 with no luck.

I think you have solved the problem.

Recent versions of Windows have been having some issues on PCs running Citrix.

It looks like the PC does not have a hardware problem. Very good troubleshooting.

Computers are complex beasts!

Hey Bill,

Just wanted to give you an update. I took the box to microcenter and they said there was faulty RAM. They replaced it, but sure enough the crashes happened again. At this point I felt like giving up.

But first I did some more testing, and realized that after my PC crashes, if I run some high voltage procedure such as running furmarks it crashes faster than usual. Also, after trying to get the computer to crash a few times back to back I noticed that the PC refused to turn on for some time. After about 10-15 minutes it finally turned back on. After some further research I learned that PSUs turn off if they get too hot so I thought that maybe that was the issue.

I turned the PC upside down and booted it up so I could look at the PSU fans through the vents and sure enough the fans weren't spinning at all. So I guess I either replace the fan for the PSU, or maybe just get a new one.

Do you know where/how I could get a replacement PSU for this particular computer? I did some research online but I guess its not as straightforward as I thought, trying to figure out what dimensions would fit, what my hardware would allow etc. I don't mind spending some money on just a complete upgrade. Its a 1200 watt psu that fits in the HP omen 45 L case.

Thanks,

Keven

My pleasure.

The 45L should be using a standard ATX power supply. You can replace the HP PSU with any retail PSU you like.

You should try to get a replacement part from HP if the PC is in warranty. I would have a local PC Tech test your PC's components using a known good PSU to verify the HP power supply is failing.

I use Corsair and Seasonic power supplies when building PCs.

You should get an ATX  3.0 & PCIe 5.0 or an ATX 3.1 & PCIe 5.1 Ready PSU since you have a 4090.

A high quality 1000 watt PSU should be enough to power the 14900k and 4090 when both components are under heavy loads such as gaming or running synthetic stress tests. But you can do a 1200 watt PSU if you want more headroom.

This Link has a power supply tier list which can assist in purchasing a high quality PSU.
