Microsoft Windows 11

Hello!

I was wondering if I could get some clarification on what CPU upgrade I could do with my HP Omen? I would like to go from the Ryzen 7 5700G to a Ryzen 7 5800x3D (upgrading the stock CPU cooler as well). I have found some other sources that say yes and ones that say no. I know the official HP documentation states that only  65W TDP CPUs are compatible with the 89EB MB, but is this truly correct given the other sources saying yes?

@BryceKarr,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

The best compatible processors for your HP Omen 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-0xxx as fitted with the HanaL motherboard (89EB), are the Ryzen 7 5800X and the Ryzen 9 5900X.

No other processors are (made) compatible (by HP) for your PC.

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the clarification. Any idea on why those wouldn't be listed on the motherboard spec sheet if they are compatible?

@BryceKarr,

Outstanding question/observation!

I can think of the most likely reason why HP omitted these fine processors, but let's just say that the folks who composed the specs sheet weren't ... aware of these processor options.

Anyways, actual factual HP Omen 25L Gaming Desktop GT15-xxxx Users weren't deterred though:

Ryzen 9 5900Xhttps://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/63299944

Yes, the HP documentation states that only 65W TDP CPUs are supported, and the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has a 105W TDP, which could cause compatibility or power/thermal issues. While some users have successfully upgraded, it's risky without proper BIOS support and cooling. If you're set on upgrading, check if your motherboard's BIOS supports the 5800X3D and ensure your cooling and power delivery can handle it.
