HP Omen 27 1440p monitor does not automatically switch inputs
I have seen other blog posts about this issue, all of which get solved via private message.
All the information i'm finding online says this monitor should switch inputs automatically, yet it does not. I have tried the factory reset that was posted in other blog posts on this site, did not work.

Hi @Siodinn,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Omen 27 1440p monitor is not automatically switching inputs despite being designed to do so, here are steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
Check Auto Input Switching Settings
- Access the On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu:
- Press the Menu button on the monitor.
- Navigate to the input/source settings.
- Look for an option called "Auto Input Switching" or similar and ensure it is enabled.
- If you don't see this option, consult the user manual for your specific model to confirm its availability.
Ensure Active Signal on Input Devices
- Verify that the devices connected to the monitor are powered on and actively sending a signal.
- Test the same input device on another monitor to rule out issues with the source device or cables.
Use Known Working Cables
- Use high-quality HDMI or DisplayPort cables that are certified for 1440p resolution and high refresh rates.
- Faulty or incompatible cables may cause the monitor to fail to detect the signal, preventing auto-switching.
Test Each Input Manually
- Switch between inputs manually using the monitor's input source menu. Confirm that each input works as expected.
Update Monitor Firmware
- Some HP Omen monitors allow firmware updates to fix known bugs.
- Visit the HP support site and check for firmware updates for your monitor. If available, follow the instructions to update.
Perform a Full Reset
- Unplug the monitor from power and all connected devices.
- Hold the power button on the monitor for 10-15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect everything and test again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

The auto input switching option is not present.
I have already tried the factory reset.
The inputs work successfully, cables are good, I am able to use both inputs, I just have to switch between them manually. My other monitors switch automatically.

Hi @Siodinn,
Thank you for your response,
If your HP Omen 27 1440p monitor is not automatically switching inputs despite troubleshooting basic steps, here are some advanced suggestions to try.
Ensure Proper EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) Support
- Check EDID Compliance: Some monitors rely on EDID information to switch inputs automatically. If the connected devices (e.g., PC or console) are not properly communicating EDID data, the monitor might not switch inputs as expected.
- Try testing the monitor with different devices to ensure the issue is not device-related.
- Some devices or graphics cards may need drivers or specific settings (like enabling certain outputs) to correctly interact with the monitor’s auto input switching.
Force Input Switching with Signal Detection
- Signal Detection Priority: Check whether one input (e.g., DisplayPort or HDMI) is being prioritized over the other. Some monitors default to the first signal detected and do not switch automatically if there is no active signal on the primary input.
- Disconnect all but one input device, then reconnect each device one by one to see if the monitor detects them correctly and switches inputs as expected.
Test with Different Resolution/Frequency Settings
- Resolution or Refresh Rate Conflicts: Auto input switching might fail if there’s a mismatch between the connected device’s resolution or refresh rate settings and the monitor’s capabilities. Test each input with a known compatible resolution and refresh rate (e.g., 1440p at 60Hz) to eliminate any potential issues.
Test in Different Modes
- Game Mode or Advanced Settings: Some HP Omen monitors may have gaming modes that could affect input switching. Check if the monitor’s settings are in a gaming or performance mode that disables certain automatic functions like input switching.
- Experiment with switching between different modes in the OSD menu (e.g., Standard, Movie, Game) to see if they affect input switching behavior.
Firmware Downgrade/Alternate Firmware Version
- Rollback Firmware: If the issue started after a firmware update, consider rolling back to a previous version of the monitor’s firmware. Sometimes newer firmware may introduce bugs that affect functionality like input switching.
- Check forums or user communities for advice on firmware versions for your specific model.

Advanced Power Reset
- Advanced Power Reset: Sometimes monitors may require a more thorough power cycle to reset internal circuits.
- Power off the monitor, unplug it from the power outlet, and also disconnect all input cables.
- Wait at least 30 minutes before reconnecting everything. This can sometimes allow the internal electronics to reset fully.
Test with External Devices
- Test with External Switch or Hub: As a last resort, you could try using an external HDMI or DisplayPort switch that forces the monitor to switch inputs automatically based on the active signal. This is not ideal, but it can serve as a workaround if the built-in functionality is flawed.
Check for Background Apps/Processes
- Graphics Card/OS Settings: Ensure that any background apps (such as display managers or drivers) that control display settings are configured to not override the monitor’s input detection. This includes checking graphics card software like NVIDIA Control Panel or AMD Radeon settings for auto-switching features that might conflict with the monitor’s settings.
By systematically addressing these factors, you should be able to identify the root cause and improve the monitor’s input switching behavior.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
