@DanC33,

Question, does your OMEN 40L already have the two 120 mm cooling fans installed right below the top bezel/panel, and it still runs (too) warm?

  The top on mine is open. I have the 2 front fans and the cooler/exhaust fan.  I have read about the Noctua fans you suggested as they are on just about everybodies "best of" list.  So if I get a couple of these, is the thinking still to use them as exhaust?

HP Recommended

@DanC33,

That is correct: position as exhaust.  Adding two fans should do wonders keeping your rig cool(er).  I could be mistaken, but I believe that your 4-pin CPU cooling fan is connected to a motherboard connection labeled "CPU_LC", and you should have open motherboard "SYS" and "FRONT" 4-pin fan connections.  I don't have the OMEN 40L specs in front of me -please check.

Don't use the "LC_PUMP" 4-pin connection as it will ramp up any fan connected to it at 100% -something you don't need/want.

One additional tip: some OMEN xxL users choose to rearrange case cooling fans, something to look into perhaps as in this YouTube video: (390) How to: Install and Setup All Fans in an HP Omen 25L / 30L! Tutorial & Guide! - YouTube

[EDIT:] PLEASE NOTE that any fan-rearrangement or fan addition(s) may affect your HP OMEN desktop warranty.

Hope this help.

  The 40L has 2, 4 pins labled for top and one labled for the front.  I will be ordering [Content Removed] as they look a little better.....I did get one from Cooler Master for the front that's similar to the other 2 front ones...MF122R RGB PWM

 Thanks for your help!
