Trying to update the BIOS so I can install a Xeon CPU (E3-1270v5). The BIOS says I have BIOS version F0.5, yet I can't install the latest update or even the earliest update. It tells me that the version I'm trying to install is older than the version that I already have. I don't know how to get around this, please help if you can.

I think there are letter numbers missing here
but if it is this type of computer , for example
OMEN by HP 880-504ng Desktop PC Product Specifications
there is a problem somewhere, how come your version is only in F0.5 very very old !

When I registered the product, it said the original specifications were an i7-7700K, 16gb ram, and a GTX 1080ti. The ID number in the BIOS I think was 8037. I was wondering if I can just use support assistant to update the BIOS? Edit: it’s an Omen 880-050

Tampa motherboard specifications.
- TDP: up to 91 W
- Socket type: LGA 1151
Processor | TDP | Integrated Graphics |
Intel Core i7-7700K (Kabylake) 4.2 GHz Quad Core | 91 W | Integrated HD Graphics 630 |
Intel Core i7-7700 (Kabylake) 3.6 GHz Quad Core | 65 W | Integrated HD Graphics 630 |

Intel Core i5-7400 (Kabylake) 3.0 GHz Quad Core | 65 W | Integrated HD Graphics 630 |
it does not matter for the processor, it does not change anything, it is not compatible!
for the bios, you actually have the possibility of using HP support assistant, but not always what is best!
I do not recommend updating the bios, especially if the computer has no particular problem
but read this
Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows)

I've stuck Xeon's in HP systems before, and it works as long as the manufacture date of the CPU is older than the BIOS date. How would this be any different? I'll try the BIOS update with support assistant I guess.

0Not tested, validated by hp
in some cases, indeed, some processors, will work with some motherboards, hp bios update, or not
but often a failure too
I stick to the compatibility list of hp here, and mentioned at intel:
and that brings you something more?
the original one is much more efficient, isn't it?
Max Turbo Frequency 4.50 GHz
we are practically obliged to stick to the HP reference when asked, little feedback, for this type of problem, as for example here
