OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-160se CTO

I have an HP Omen desktop which came with two add-on video cards. The system technically has three video cards: one on the system board and the two additional in the PCIE slots. I want to use the onboard video as my primary while leaving the other two for heavy graphical task. I know that by default most motherboards that contains an onboard graphics card, gets disabled when any additional graphics card in inserted into the PCIE slot(s). This is the case with my desktop. I know you should be able to go into the Bios and enable the onboard card to be used as your primary graphics adapter but for some reason this option is not available on this desktop. The onboard graphics card works because I have removed the two add-on cards; plugged my HDMI cable into onboard card and I was able to install the latest Intel Graphics drivers for it. It does not matter if the add-on graphics cards are in the PCIE slots or not, the option to select the onboard Intel graphics card to make it primary is not available. Has anyone had this issue and been able to get it resolved?

From working with PCs from different manufacturers for many years, I know that there is usually a technician Bios Tool that can be used to access the Bios to enable and disable things that are not usually capable in the standard Bios. I was wondering if this is the way I need to go and if so, does anyone know how I can get my hands on one this tool?

Thanks!

hi

not possible

Tampa2 motherboard specifications.

Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
"I want to use the onboard video as my primary while leaving the other two for heavy graphical task."
and in this case, practically no use, if you use a not very fast application, the graphics card is practically not solicited, so little interest in using the intel for that!

Hello and thanks for the reply, I appreciate it.

I am aware that inserting a graphics card in the PCIe slot makes the integrated graphics card not available and is the premise for me asking if anyone has a solution to this. Please note, I am not running Microsoft Office or Google docs 🙂 but instead a graphically intensive application for which I can select one or both installed graphics cards to perform the task. When both cards are selected or just the one hooked up to the monitor you can clearly see performance degradation because that card must also provide the GUI to display the application.

There is usually an option in the Bios to make the integrated graphics card primary or not. OEM usually also have a special Bios boot disc that allows them to boot into the Bios and make modifications that are otherwise not possible in normal Bios edits. I have personally seen and used these tools for HPs, Lenovo's, Dells, and some other PC manufacturers. With this tool you can modify serial numbers, enable and disable certain functions in the Bios. HP has intentionally disabled this function, so it is not a norm to not be able to do this. This is usually a function also available on laptops.

Your answer is not really a solution but if no one has or no how to get hold of this tool then I guess I'll just have to accept it as not possible and find a nother solution.

Thanks again for your reply.

So far hp does not provide a tool for this type of computer, it is like that for many models
Laptops are different because they have a special switchable graphics system to improve the duration in battery mode mainly
I know that for some models there are possibilities, but not for this type of consumer computer, in general!
That said, I have the same motherboard, and I haven't found anything so far.
You ask the question, I answer you, sorry if it does not suit

Thank you once again for your reply, I appreciate you doing so.

Please do not be condescending with your replies. Your first reply was a bit condescending and your most recent much better except for the last line. But regardless I really appreciate your reply.

I will continue my search to find a solution and see if I can get hold of the 'Technician Tool'.

I will mark the question as 'Accept Solution' although one was not found here.

Cheers!

Hi

sorry, no, I think you are misinterpreting my answer, none of that
I don't know if it's the fact of the translation, possible, but I'm just explaining to you what it is.
No intentional offense anyway, sorry if it comes across like that
