A little background info: so I've had this laptop for two years. I got it in December 2020 and for the last two years, it has run pretty smoothly. However, earlier this week it just decided to stop. It runs extremely slow now, and I'm not sure why. My wifi connection is great, I've cleared out every last unneeded junk file from my computer, I've scanned for viruses and changed my settings to help optimize performance. I've done every last thing that I've been told to by the internet, spent hours looking at similiar problems and solutions, and no matter the effort I put into fixing this issue, my computer still runs extremely slow. One thing I've noticed is that task manager says my computer is almost always using around 50% of my computer's memory. I have no clue if there's any correlation, and I'm not sure if that's something to be worried about or something that's even probable considering how free on space my computer is at the moment, but I thought I'd point it out. If anyone else has a similar problem, I'd love to hear back from y'all. Thank you!

Welcome to our User-to/for-User Forum!
Let's go through these steps first:
How much space is left on -and when have you last run a "Disk Cleanup" / Error Check / "Optimize" your primary drive? -And speaking of drives, do you have an HDD or SSD? If you haven't switched over to an SSD, please consider.
If you haven't done so, download the freeware program CCleaner and run.
Moving on, have you run: sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth as Administrator in CMD?
Also, if you haven't done so already, let's get rid of temporary files: Type %temp% in your Windows search bar. Click on said "File folder". Select all (Ctrl A) and delete. When the message "The action can't be completed because the folder or a file in it is open in another program" show up, check the: "Do this for all current items" and hit "Skip". Upon: "You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder" hit "Continue". You may have to cycle through this a couple of times.
Open "Task Manager". Click on the "Startup" tab. Disable all programs (by right-clicking on "Enabled" and choosing "Disabled") except anti-virus (strongly recommend you have one, such as "Webroot") or VPN (virtual private network if you have it) program(s). Reboot.
If the above doesn't produce a noticeable improvement, go to Settings, then Recovery and select the "Reset this PC" option -if you have done so already, skip this.
Please download and run "HP Update". This HP utility program will search for, download and install any available driver updates for your PC, as found here for example: https://hp-update.en.lo4d.com/windows.
Please let me know how it went.
Kind Regards,
