OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT15-0000a (4Q9S4AV)

Hello

While playing some games on my PC my controller, mic and mouse all disconnect and then reconnect. Sometimes it does it a few times and then they just quit working altogether until I restart my PC. After checking the reliability history, I see what you get below.  I've tried downloading chipset drivers and all of that but still having issues. Any help on a solution would be helpful.

Hi @royperry40,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP OMEN gaming desktop is experiencing hardware-related issues, particularly related to USB devices. The "LiveKernelEvent" error with code 144 often points to issues with hardware or drivers. Let's go through some steps to diagnose and hopefully resolve the problem:

1. Update Drivers and BIOS

  • Chipset Drivers: Ensure you have the latest chipset drivers from HP’s support site or the motherboard manufacturer’s website.
  • USB Drivers: Update USB drivers via Device Manager. Look under "Universal Serial Bus controllers," right-click each entry, and select "Update driver."
  • BIOS Update: Check if there’s a BIOS update available for your motherboard. Sometimes, updates can resolve hardware compatibility issues.

2. Check for Windows Updates

  • Ensure your Windows 11 is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

3. Inspect USB Ports and Connections

  • Physical Inspection: Check if there’s any visible damage to the USB ports or connectors. Dust or debris can also cause connectivity issues.
  • Test Different Ports: Plug your devices into different USB ports to see if the issue persists.
  • Test Different Devices: Try connecting different USB devices to see if the problem is isolated to specific devices.

4. Run Windows Hardware Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters and run the troubleshooter for hardware and devices.

5. Analyze the Dump Files

  • Windows Debugging Tools: You can use tools like BlueScreenView or WinDbg to analyze the dump files (USBXHCI-20240901-1204.dmp). This can give you more insight into which drivers or hardware components might be causing the issue.

6. Check System Event Logs

  • Open the Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc), and look under Windows Logs > System for any errors or warnings that correspond to the times when your USB devices disconnect. This can sometimes give more details on what might be failing.

7. Perform a Clean Boot

  • Clean Boot: This helps identify if a background application or service is causing the problem. Here’s how:
    1. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
    2. Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    4. Restart your PC and see if the issue persists.

. Test RAM and Hardware

  • Memory Test: Run Windows Memory Diagnostic (mdsched.exe) to check for RAM issues.
  • Hardware Test: If your PC manufacturer provides diagnostic tools (like HP Support Assistant), use them to run comprehensive hardware diagnostics.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
