Can I upgrade my RTX 2060 to a RTX 3060?

Couple of cards I'm looking at are:

ASUS Phoenix NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 V2 Gaming Graphics Card- PCIe 4.0, 12GB GDDR6 memory,

MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 3060 12GB GDRR6 192-Bit HDMI/DP PCIe 4 Single Fan Ampere OC ITX Graphics Card (RTX 3060 AERO ITX 12G OC)

and

PNY GeForce RTX 3060 12GB XLR8 Gaming Revel Epic-X RGB Single Fan Graphics Card

Please let me know. I don't want to buy something that is not compatible with my PC.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you

Hi

The Asus and PNY cards are single fan and should fit in your PC's case. I am finding an MSI card that is almost an 11 inch dual fan card. https://us.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-RTX-3060-GAMING-X-12G/Specification

Send me a link to the single fan MSI card you are looking at as I cannot locate this product.

It looks like the cards are 2.5 slot cards. The card is going to very close to the power supply.

Your PC has a 500 watt power supply. Asus recommends a 650 watt PSU plus one eight pin PCIe connection. The PNY card recommends a 550 watt PSU plus one 8 pin PCIe connection.

The dual fan MSI card recommends a 550 watt PSU plus one 8 pin and one 6 pin PCIe connection.

Thank you for the quick response.

Much appreciate

Here is the link for the MSI card.

I found it on Amazon. Let me know if it works.

On Amazon I searched RTX 3060 Single Fan. In case the link doesn’t work.

Thank you once again!

Hi @MrTorres

My pleasure.

Here are the card specs at MSI https://www.msi.com/Graphics-Card/GeForce-RTX-3060-AERO-ITX-12G-OC/Specification

It looks like a single fan, dual slot card. This card would give more airflow to the graphics card fan.

MSI recommends a 550 watt PSU with one 8 pin PCIe connection.

You have a 500 watt power supply. You might be able to run the cards using the HP power supply provided the PSU has the additional PCIe connectors. You might experience system instability when pushing the new graphics cards and the CPU while gaming.

Thank you! So they will work but first I gotta upgrade to 550-650 watt power supply.

You have been so helpful.
Any recommendations?

Thanks

Hi @MrTorres

You could try the HP 500 watt power supply if it has the required PCIe cables.

I use fully modular: Seasonic, EVGA, or Corsair power supplies. I like to add a future graphics card upgrade buffer. A 750 watt PSU or even a 850 watt PSU would be on my shopping list. But you have to check new PSU dimensions to verify a higher powered part will fit in your PC's chassis.

The above PSUs cost more but are high quality and usually come with a 10 year warranty. You could move the new PSU to a different case in the future.
