HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec0101ax

My laptop is 3.5 years old and its battery just stopped working and asks to replace the battery. Otherwise it works on ac adapter without it shuts down automatically.

So I tried replacing it with a spare battery which was PG03XL model. But my laptop can't detect the battery. It shows no battery installed and their is no battery indicator when I turn on the laptop and at lockscreen it shows the indicator with a x sign.

I tried uninstalling, updating the driver too.. but nothing seems to work.

Hi @User1170,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

When a replacement battery isn't detected by your laptop, the issue could stem from several potential causes. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Battery Compatibility

  • Ensure the replacement battery (PG03XL) is specifically compatible with your laptop model. Check the battery part number and specifications in your laptop's service manual or on the manufacturer’s website.

2. Inspect Battery Connection

  • Power Down and Disconnect Power:
    1. Shut down your laptop completely and disconnect the AC adapter.
    2. Open the laptop and carefully inspect the battery connection.
  • Reconnect the Battery:
    • Ensure the battery connector is properly seated in its slot. Sometimes, a loose or misaligned connection can cause the battery to go undetected.
  • Look for any debris or damage to the battery connectors or laptop’s battery slot.

3. BIOS and Firmware Update

  • Update the BIOS by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

  • Reset BIOS Settings:
    • Refer to the steps on this link to reset BIOS default.

4. Perform a Battery Reset

  • Disconnect the battery and hold down the power button for 30 seconds to discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and try turning on the laptop again.

5. Check Windows Battery Drivers

  • Go to Device Manager:
    • Expand Batteries and uninstall both:
      • Microsoft AC Adapter
      • Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery
  • Restart the laptop to allow Windows to reinstall the drivers.

6. Hardware Issues

  • If the issue persists, the motherboard or power management IC (Integrated Circuit) could be the problem.
  • Contact the laptop manufacturer’s support or a trusted repair technician to inspect the hardware.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
