My Omen gaming laptop is not charging. I have tried removing the battery to reset it. I also have had it plugged in with the battery out and the computer still wouldn't turn on. The charging indicator light will flash once as you plug it in and when you press the power button.
It could have been damaged by a surge because this all started when my last charging adapter fried while charging my computer. I could smell the bunt electrical components coming from the adapter but when I took the back off the laptop and did a sniff check. I didn't smell anything with the laptop. If it had a protective fuse I don't know where it is but it's not charging with the new charging adapter I got.

Hi @Scrapsheep,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP gaming laptop is not charging and you've already tried removing the battery and attempting to turn it on without the battery, but it still won't power on, there may be an issue with either the laptop's power supply or internal components.
Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue.
Check the Power Supply:
- Ensure that the power adapter is firmly connected to both the laptop and a working power outlet.
- Examine the power cable and adapter for any visible damage, fraying, or loose connections. If you find any damage, consider replacing the power supply.
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Disconnect the laptop from the power supply.
- If the battery is removable, remove it.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds. This will drain any residual power from the laptop.
- Reconnect the power supply (without the battery if it's removable) and try turning on the laptop.
Inspect for LED Indicators:
- Pay attention to any LED indicators on the laptop. If the charging indicator light is flashing, it could indicate a problem with the power supply or charging circuit.
Try a Different Power Outlet:
- Sometimes, the issue may be with the power outlet itself. Try plugging the laptop into a different outlet to rule out this possibility.
Test with a Different Charger:
- If possible, borrow or use a compatible charger from a similar HP laptop to see if the issue is with your laptop's charger. If the laptop charges with a different charger, you may need to replace the charger.
Check for Physical Damage:
- Examine the laptop for any physical damage, such as a damaged power jack or loose connections. If you find any, it may require professional repair.
Perform a BIOS Reset (CMOS Reset):
- In some cases, resetting the BIOS (CMOS) settings can help resolve power-related issues. Refer to your laptop's user manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to perform a CMOS reset.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
