HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-0066
Microsoft Windows 11

I'm looking to upgrade my HP tp01-0066 gpu. Its a radeon 550, and I want to upgrade to a Msi GeForce GTX 1660 Super.

I just wanna know if I'd need to upgrade my pcs psu as well, and whether or not the gpu is even compatible. Any information I need for the switch, please let me know.

@Lagoobrius,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

An excellent question, and one I can help you with.

Your 310-watt power supply (HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-0066 Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support) could, in theory, power a GTX 1660 Super (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER Specs | TechPowerUp GPU Database), but most HP 310-watt power supplies are not equipped with an 8-pin PCIe power supply cable which most GTX 1660 Super GPUs require.

However, you can upgrade the power supply of your HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-0066 (6YQ86AA) as fitted with an Erica motherboard with SSID: 8643, with either a 400-watt (HP p/n: L04618-800) or a 500-watt (HP p/n: L05757-800) power supply as per: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Knowledge-Base/Power-Supply-Cross-Reference-for-specific-model...:

Both PSU options can be purchased online via eBay, for example.  If a GTX 1660 Super is all you want, go with the 400-watt power supply.  Will even power an HP (or Dell-) branded RTX 3060 12GB graphics card if you so wish, btw.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,

Could you please send me a link to a psu that is compatible with this motherboard and a 1660 then please?

@Lagoobrius,

You betcha. -I will provide you with purchase links I would use myself.

The 400-watt power supply from a trusted, "Top Rated Plus" eBay Seller: 400W L04618-800 Power Supply For HP 280 288 285 480 600 680 800 G3 G4 L76557-001 | eBay

A quality GTX 1660 Super 6GB GDDR6 graphics card from trusted, reliable Sellers who also allow returns (get your money back) if applicable:

1.) HP GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB GPU Graphic Card | eBay

2.) NVIDIA FRU5V10W62696 GeForce GTX 1660 Super Graphics Card 6GB GDDR6 | eBay

Hope this was helpful.

Thank you. The gpus are sold out in those links, but I can probably get one second hand soon or off amazon

And so I'm sure, you're sure I can use that psu with my current computer, as well as that gpu?

@Lagoobrius,

Yes, I am sure.  Just in case reality as I know it shifted, you can always return it to get your money back.  Look, I am providing you with the best information/deals possible, you understand that I cannot guarantee that any products I recommended are always living up to their expectations.

The GTX 1660 Super links I provided yesterday were not sold out yet, but I am not surprised as (affordable) graphics cards are being sold/purchased very briskly at this point in time.

Here are two additional GTX 1660 Super purchase links, don't wait too long: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324873711442?hash=item4ba3fb6f52%3Ag%3AlvcAAOSw6jZhiZNW&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAA..., and: https://www.ebay.com/itm/125878691706?epid=15042214362&hash=item1d4ef4677a%3Ag%3AVU0AAOSwsy9jVsw1&am....
