Hi, Helpful Folks,

During COVID, I bought an HP Omen 25L gaming desktop, a Ryzen 7 3700X that came stock with 16GB RAM (2 banks of 8GB), a 1TB hard drive and a 512GB SSD. It had been stripped of its GPU, but I successfully found a Radeon RX 5700 that worked with it.

I believe this is model number HP GT12-0030. HP says it officially supports up to 32GB (16/16), but Crucial says it can support 64GB (2 banks of HyperX 32 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM).

Crucial's not always right about these things, but has anyone else managed to upgrade one of these machines to 64 GB?

Also, is there a way to find out the GPUs this can support? Somewhere on Reddit someone was claiming that this machine could support any GPU that fits, but in a recent post someone else claimed that the BIOS prevented all but a few models. (There is a BIOS option for unlocking the GPU model, but I don't know if there are limits).

Thank you!

Hi @WAlbritton,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for choosing HP and for your inquiry regarding your HP OMEN 25L Desktop GT12-0030 featuring the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor.

We're here to provide accurate information regarding your desktop’s RAM upgrade capacity and GPU compatibility, based on HP engineering specifications.

The HP OMEN 25L GT12-0030 comes equipped with:

  • Two DIMM slots
  • Factory-configured with 16GB (2×8GB) DDR4-3200
  • Officially supports up to 32GB (2×16GB) of DDR4-3200 MHz memory

HP has validated and tested up to 32GB of RAM for this model. While third-party sources may suggest 64GB compatibility, HP only guarantees optimal performance and stability up to 32GB based on our internal hardware validation process and BIOS architecture.

If you choose to install 64GB (2×32GB), please note:

  • The system may recognize it, but HP cannot ensure stability or provide support for configurations beyond 32GB
  • Ensure the memory used complies with JEDEC DDR4-3200 standards
  • Overclocking or enabling XMP profiles may be restricted or unsupported

The HP OMEN 25L GT12-0030 supports a wide range of modern graphics cards. HP’s BIOS is not designed to lock out third-party GPUs, and your successful installation of a Radeon RX 5700 confirms GPU upgrade functionality.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
