Omen 880-100na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to upgrade my Omen 880 motherboard to accept CPU’s using either lga1200 or am4 sockets. Is this possible and/or practical do do? What do I need to look out for in the specs of a new motherboard?

@Johnb991 , welcome to the forum.

HP has their motherboards made to their specifications.  Therefore, the cases are made to match the layout of the motherboard.  The problems that you may have are: 1) the holes in the motherboard not matching the stand-offs in the case and 2) the front case connectors not matching those on the motherboard.  Your best option would be to choose a motherboard manufacturer and contact their Tech Support for help.  They are the experts on their products.

Thanks @Old_geekster

As an interim, I have looked at a 9th generation cpu. I have found two different specs for the Tampa 2 board. One does not give a 9th generation upgrade option and the other has the i7 9700k as an option, so a little confusing and if And i7 why not an i5 9700k?

Here are the links for the two different specs:

You are welcome, @Johnb991!

Again, HP has their motherboards made to their specifications.  They use the same motherboard in many different models with many different configurations.  This is how they get their different price points.  A less expensive model will have a less choices  for all of the components.  Since I am not a HP employee, I am not privy to the inside decisions, however.
