OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop PC GT21-1000i RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

My OMEN by HP 40L Gaming Desktop GT21 randomly freezes up. Sometimes, it occurs when I am doing something as simple as watching a Twitch broadcast, and sometimes when I am playing a game. Wehn it freezes, it is totally unresponsive. The mouse cursor disappears, the keyboard stops responding and the problem persists until I shutdown the computer by pressing the power button until it shuts down, then turning it back on. The computer is only a couple months old so I am surprised I am having any problems at all.

Hi @FireRaven

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The PC should be in warranty at a couple of months old. Contact HP Support for assistance.

You could have a hardware problem covered under warranty. A freezing PC could be caused by the following:

- Corrupt system files. Open an admin command prompt. Input sfc /scannow

- Drivers. Update drivers, check for graphics drivers at Nvidia or AMD.

- A thermal problem. download and run HWiNFO portable.

- Hardware including: the power supply, graphics card, RAM, MB, or CPU.

- Any other hardware or peripherals connected to the MB or external ports.

Have you run diagnostics at startup? Tap the "ESC" key at power on, select "F2".

Run system and component tests.

Back up data. Reinstall the operating system using HP Cloud Recovery. Run the system lean for a while to check stability.

I would say you have an internal hardware or thermal problem if the PC continues to freeze when using only a mouse, keyboard, and monitor after a factory OS reset. You might have a flaky mouse or keyboard.

Regards
