Hi @Jenniferp031,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing a black screen with only a cursor on your OMEN By HP Obelisk Desktop 875-0018, it could be due to several reasons. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix the problem. Press and hold the power button until your computer turns off, and then turn it back on.
  • Check for Loose Cables: Ensure that all the cables and connections between your computer and monitor are secure. A loose or disconnected cable can result in a black screen.
  • Try Safe Mode: Boot your computer in Safe Mode. To do this, restart your computer and repeatedly press the F8 key or another key (the key may vary depending on your computer) before the Windows logo appears. In Safe Mode, Windows loads only essential drivers, which can help identify if a third-party program or driver is causing the issue.
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Outdated or corrupted graphics drivers can cause display problems. You can try to update your graphics drivers to the latest version from the HP website or the GPU manufacturer's website.
  • System Restore: If you have recently installed software or drivers and the problem started after that, you can try performing a System Restore to revert your computer to a previous state when it was working correctly.
  • Check for Malware: Malware or viruses can interfere with your computer's normal operation. Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure your system is clean.
  • Check Hardware: It's possible that a hardware component, such as the graphics card or RAM, is malfunctioning.
  • Reinstall Windows: If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Windows. This should be considered as a last resort, as it will erase all your data unless you have a backup.
  • BIOS/UEFI Settings: If you're comfortable working with BIOS/UEFI settings, you can also try resetting them to default values, as incorrect settings can sometimes cause display issues.
  • External Display: If you have an external monitor, try connecting your computer to it to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is with your monitor or the computer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
